The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection West,
I trust everyone enjoyed their 4th of July holiday! What a great reminder of the freedom's we enjoy in this country. Many around the world do not enjoy the freedom’s we do and so may we be found grateful for those who have sacrificed and defended boldly our freedom. I’m reminded of when Paul speaks of freedom in Christ in Galatians 5, the same chapter we drew last Sunday’s message from…
“It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery.” (Galatians 5:1 NIV)
You can view last Sunday’s sermon on the movie WONDER by clicking here. This Sunday we continue in the ‘Gospel in Film’ series looking at one of the breakout hits of this last year, JUMANJI. The film is a sequel to 1995's JUMANJI, which was based on the 1981 children’s book of the same name by Chris Van Allsburg. Set twenty-one years after Jumanji, it follows four teenagers who are transported into the video game world of Jumanji and play as their chosen characters. Joining another player, they must overcome the game's magical power to win and return home. Along their journey they discover gifts and talents they didn’t know they had, similar to the spiritual gifts we read about in 1 Corinthians 12. I’m looking forward to Sunday and I hope you’ll invite someone to this fun series. All KiDSCOR Sunday School programs at all four services resume this Sunday, with rezlife middle school Sunday School resuming August 19th.
We also announced our second partner school this past Sunday, Fairview Elementary in Olathe. This will be a great partnership as we seek to build bridges in our community helping kids get a great start to their education. Pick up a school supply bag to help our partner schools this Sunday in the back of the Sanctuary!
Looking forward to worshipping with you on Sunday,
Jason

DIY July Serve Saturday
July is “do it yourself” serve month! On any day of the week, help someone in need. Do some yard work for a neighbor who is going through a hard time; visit with patients at a nursing home; sort donations at a food or clothing pantry or at a thrift store; take a plate of cookies to a Fire House or Police Station with a card of thanks; give your undivided attention to a person who needs it; fill a school supply drive bag for Ridgeview, etc. Then, post updates/pictures of your DIY serving adventures, #RezWestJulyServe. Have a great July as you follow the example of Jesus and spend time loving and serving your neighbors!
