The Deaf Devo from The Deaf Missions in Council Bluffs, Iowa, United States "Psalm 119 (13)" Bible Reading: Psalm 119:97-104 for Saturday, 19 November 2016
Psalm 119:מ (Mem)
97 How I love your Torah!
I meditate on it all day.
98 I am wiser than my foes,
because your mitzvot are mine forever.
99 I have more understanding than all my teachers,
because I meditate on your instruction.
100 I understand more than my elders,
because I keep your precepts.
101 I keep my feet from every evil way,
in order to observe your word.
102 I don’t turn away from your rulings,
because you have instructed me.
103 How sweet to my tongue is your promise,
truly sweeter than honey in my mouth!
104 From your precepts I gain understanding;
this is why I hate every false way.

The New Testament teaches us that we should never stop praying to God (1 Thessalonians 5:17). We can pray to God anywhere at any time. But I wonder if we are constantly studying God's Word.
In verses 97-98a of our Bible Reading for today, the writer says, "Oh, how I love your teachings! I talk about them all the time. Your commands are always with me." These verses indicate that we should be reading and studying the Bible all the time.
Do you love to read God's Word? Some people do not like to read the Bible because it shows them the wrong things they do. And some people do not want to follow God and live differently than the world.
The Bible is our help and our guide. God wants us to follow His teachings every day, not just part of the time. When we study God's Word, we can remember Bible verses and keep them with us constantly.[BH]
"Great blessings belong to those who don't listen to evil advice...Instead, they love the Lord's teachings and think about them day and night."[Psalm 1:1-2]
PRAYER: Lord, thank You for the Bible that teaches me how to live for You. Thank You for guiding me every day. In Jesus' name. Amen.

The Deaf Devo from The Deaf Missions in Council Bluffs, Iowa, United States "Depend on God" Bible Reading: Proverbs 3:5-8 for Friday, 18 November 2016Proverbs 3:5 Trust in Adonai with all your heart;
do not rely on your own understanding.
6 In all your ways acknowledge him;
then he will level your paths.
7 Don’t be conceited about your own wisdom;
but fear Adonai, and turn from evil.
8 This will bring health to your body
and give strength to your bones.

Some people do not want anyone's help. These people think that depending on someone else shows that they are weak. They refuse to ask for help, even when they need it.
As Christians, we need to depend on God. He is the only one who will never fail us or let us down. Verse 5 of our Bible Reading today reminds us of this. "Trust the Lord completely, and don't depend on your own knowledge." In this verse we learn something that we should do and something that we should not do.
First, we should depend on God every day. We can always trust Him to help us. God loves us and wants what is best for us. He will help us with our big problems and with our small problems. Second, we should not depend on our own knowledge. Sometimes what I think I should do is wrong. God knows His whole plan for our lives. That's why we should completely depend on Him.
Do you need help today? Depend on God![PD]
"With every step you take, think about what he wants,
and he will help you go the right way."
[Proverbs 3:6]
PRAYER: Father, I will depend on You to guide me today. In Jesus' name. Amen.

The Deaf Devo from The Deaf Missions in Council Bluffs, Iowa, United States "Treasures" Bible Reading: Matthew 6:19-21 for Thursday, 17 November 2016Matthew 6:19 “Do not store up for yourselves wealth here on earth, where moths and rust destroy, and burglars break in and steal. 20 Instead, store up for yourselves wealth in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys, and burglars do not break in or steal. 21 For where your wealth is, there your heart will be also.

A man was on a trip, and someone stole his wallet. The man lost $100 and his identification cards. The man was upset, but he knew that was something that could happen to anyone.
But this man did not keep his real valuables - jewelry, keepsakes, important documents - in his wallet. He kept those things in a safe deposit box at a bank. It would be very difficult for someone to break into the bank and steal the things in his safe deposit box. So where was the best place to keep his valuables - in his wallet or in a safe deposit box?
In our Bible verses, Jesus talked about saving up treasures. People who are not Christians save up their treasures on earth. When they die, they lose those treasures. But everything a Christian does for God is saved up in heaven. These treasures are safe forever.
Don't worry about earthly things today. Instead, obey God and save up treasures in heaven![BL]
"Instead, save your treasures in heaven, where they cannot be destroyed by moths or rust and where thieves break in and steal them."[Matthew 6:20]
PRAYER: Dear God, help me to obey and serve You today. In Jesus' name. Amen.

89 Your word continues forever, Adonai,
firmly fixed in heaven;
90 your faithfulness through all generations;
you established the earth, and it stands.
91 Yes, it stands today, in keeping with your rulings;
for all things are your servants.
92 If your Torah had not been my delight,
I would have perished in my distress.
93 I will never forget your precepts,
for with them you have made me alive.
94 I am yours; save me
because I seek your precepts.
95 The wicked hope to destroy me,
but I focus on your instruction.
96 I see the limits of all perfection,
but your mitzvah has no bounds.

When I was a teenager, some people teased me and tried to take advantage of me. I had some friends who were also teased by others. I liked to go to a movie or sit in the park with these friends. Sometimes we would just get together and pray. We asked God to help us stand strong against the people who mistreated us.
One day I decided that I would not accept the teasing any more. I committed myself to reading my Bible and praying every morning before I went to school. Often I would just pick a place to read in my Bible. No matter where I read, God's words encouraged me and gave me strength to stand strong. Verse 95 of our Bible Reading is a verse that encouraged me. "The wicked tried to destroy me, but your rules made me wise."
God's Word, the Bible, will help you face difficult times in your life. Read God's words of encouragement and hope today![BH]
"If I had not found joy in your teachings, my suffering would have destroyed me. I will never forget your commands, because through them you gave me new life."[Psalm 119:92-93]
PRAYER: Lord, thank You for Your words of comfort and help. In Jesus' name. Amen.

The Deaf Devo from The Deaf Missions in Council Bluffs, Iowa, United States "Temptation" Bible Reading: 1 Corinthians 10:12-13 for Tuesday, 15 November 20161 Corinthians 10:12 Therefore, let anyone who thinks he is standing up be careful not to fall! 13 No temptation has seized you beyond what people normally experience, and God can be trusted not to allow you to be tempted beyond what you can bear. On the contrary, along with the temptation he will also provide the way out, so that you will be able to endure.
-------
When I hang clothes on my clothesline, my dog and cat go outside with me. My cat likes to jump into the basket where I have folded the clean clothes. Then she loves to roll around on the clothes.
My cat knows that she is not supposed to get into the basket. As long as my dog is near, the cat will avoid the basket. But as soon as the dog is out of sight, the cat will sneak closer and closer. Then she rubs against the basket and starts touching the clothes with her paw. Finally, she will very carefully crawl into the basket.
Many times we are like my cat. There are things in life that tempt us to sin. We know we should avoid them, but we get as close as we can and then we give in to the temptation. Our Bible Reading today tells us some good news: God will give us a way to escape the temptations we face.
When you are tempted to sin, remember that you can resist the temptation. Depend on God and His Word to help you![LL]
"But when you are tempted, God will also give you a way to escape that temptation. Then you will be able to endure it."[1 Corinthians 10:13b]
PRAYER: God, thank You for helping me resist temptation today. In Jesus' name. Amen.
