Dr. Glenn Froning, 86, the husband of a retired Deacon of the Great Plains United Methodist Conference passed away Jan. 29, 2017. Born in Gray Summit, Mo., Sept. 8, 1930, to Gilbert Charles Froning and Marie (Buchanan) Froning.
Glenn chaired the Poultry Science Department at UNL until it combined with Animal Science, making a final move to Food Science and Technology in the early 80's. This was home for the scientist that lived within him. Presently he is a professor emeritus in the Department of Food Science and Technology at the University of Nebraska.
Following his retirement Glenn continued consulting in his professional field with many years as food science and technology advisor to the American Egg Board.
Glenn married Lynne, in 1962. Glenn remained active in church coordinating the Mission Produce Table each year while serving on the Property and Facilities Committee. As an active member of Northeast Kiwanis, he enjoyed volunteering with the Backpack Program at Belmont Elementary School where his daughter teaches.
Glenn is survived by his wife, Lynne Froning; daughters, Teri Foley and Sharon Phillips.
Funeral service: 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017 at Saint Paul United Methodist Church, 1144 'M' Street, Lincoln, Nebraska with Rev. Dr. David Lux officiating. Memorials to Saint Paul United Methodist Church. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, 2017 at Roper and Sons, 4300 'O' Street. Condolences online at Roperandsons.com.
