The Deaf Devo from The Deaf Missions in Council Bluffs, Iowa, United States "Jesus' Parables (1)" Bible Reading: Matthew 13:44-46 for Wednesday, 1 February 2017
Matthew 13:44 “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a treasure hidden in a field. A man found it, hid it again, then in great joy went and sold everything he owned, and bought that field.
45 “Again, the Kingdom of Heaven is like a merchant on the lookout for fine pearls. 46 On finding one very valuable pearl he went away, sold everything he owned and bought it.

When Jesus taught people about God, He often told them stories called parables. These parables were about things on earth, and they taught the people how they should obey God. In several of Jesus' parables, He talked about the kingdom of heaven. The kingdom of heaven is our Christian life.
In our Bible Reading, Jesus told a parable about a man who found a treasure.
The man sold everything he had, because the treasure was very important. Jesus said that the kingdom of heaven was like that treasure. In Jesus' second parable, he told about a man who found a pearl. This man also sold everything he had so he could buy the pearl. Again, Jesus said that the kingdom of heaven was like this pearl.
God wants us to read His Word, the Bible, and obey it. He loves us and wants us to live forever with Him. We need to be willing to give up everything we have so we can follow God every day.[Rachel Burkum]
"Don't save treasures for yourselves here on earth...Instead, save your treasures in heaven, where they cannot be destroyed by moths or rust and where thieves cannot break in and steal them."[Matthew 6:19-20]
PRAYER: God, thank You for the Bible, which helps me follow You every day. In Jesus' name. Amen.
