Weekly eNote from Pastor Jason Gant for  03 March 2017 of The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection West in Olathe, Kansas, United States

Resurrection West,
Greetings on this beautiful Friday morning! On Sunday we will gather to worship at 8am, 9:30am, 11am, and 5pm concluding the ‘When I Grow Up’ series. I’ll be sharing two more key markers of spiritual mentorship and testimony of God moving among us. I hope you’ll invite a parent who needs encouragement or a friend who has significant influence. You won’t regret it!
We’ve shared some parenting tips along the way in this series and today wanted to share some specific resources you might consider to support your Christian parenting (some will be available in the bookstore kiosk on Sunday).
Suggested Bibles for children and teens:
  • The Beginner’s Bible: Timeless Children’s Stories, published by Zondervan (ages 6 and under)

  • CEB Deep Blue Kids Bible (the Bible we gift to our 3rd graders every fall)
  • NIV Adventure Bible, edited by Lawrence O. Richards (ages 12 and under)
  • NIV Youth Quest Study Bible (the Bible we give our confirmands 8th-12th grade)

Understanding the Bible, Mondays, March 6,13, 27; April 3, 10; 6:30-8pm - Have you ever thought about these questions: How do I understand the Bible? What kind of study Bible do I need? Where do I nd something in the Bible? Does God really speak through the Bible?“Understanding the Bible”will tackle these questions and more. Childcare provided. Catered meals served each night; $50 per person includes all meals and handouts; $15 for handouts only (meals not included). Register for this 5-week study at cor.org/west/signup.
Join Pastor Jason for Baptism Class - March 7th, 5:30 - 6:15pm - Interested in baptism? Depression/Anxiety Help - Beginning Tuesday, March 7, 6:45-8:15 pm, join us for eight evenings of learning and support. Many in our society live with ongoing depression and anxiety. Know that you are not alone and that we are a church who cares. For more information or to register, contact chris.holliday@cor.org
CPR/AED Training - CPR and AED training can truly make a difference in someone's life. Recognition of the signs and symptoms of a heart attack, early activation of 9-1-1, bystander CPR and AED utilization can all dramatically impact a person's chances of survival. Two training sessions will be offered on Tuesday, March 28, from 1–4 pm or 6–9 pm. There is no cost for the course and you will receive a certificate upon completion. Learn steps to become a lifesaver, not just a bystander, in an emergency by using hands-only CPR and an available automatic external defibrillator (AED.) This course is a great first step to volunteering as part of our Cardiac Arrest Response Team (CART). Register today at cor.org/west/signup or contact Bob Hite at bobhite1@gmail.com for more information.

Finally, I’m still recalling the powerful images from Wednesday night as hundreds of us gathered to begin this Lenten season with worship, reflection, and the imposition of the ashes. I want to thank our worship, hospitality, and care teams in coming together to create such a meaningful experience as we received ashes and hammered nails into crosses covered in our hidden sins. Through this Lenten season, I am taking on the daily office prayer and I'd love for you to join me. The Daily Office is an act of spiritual discipline where one pauses to pray three times per day; 9am, noon, & 3pm. I’m structuring my prayers to begin with thankfulness at 9am, adoration at noon, and confession at 3pm. May you consider giving up or taking on something to grow deeper in your walk with Christ as we move closer to Easter!
Looking forward to worshiping with you on Sunday,
Pastor Jason
