Blue Springs, Missouri, United States - The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Blue Springs eNote from Pastor Penny Ellwood for Friday, 25 July 2014

Blue Springs, Missouri, United States - The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Blue Springs eNote from Pastor Penny Ellwood for Friday, 25 July 2014
Greetings Resurrection Blue Springs,
I hope this note finds you having a good Friday and anticipating another great summer weekend.  I’m really excited about this weekend as we have plans made to share time tonight with some new friends and we get to celebrate the marriage on Saturday of one of my daughter’s long time friends. This beautiful young woman spent quite a bit of time over the years in the circle around our kitchen table and we feel honored to witness the vows and celebrate this special day in her life.  I’m also very excited about this weekend’s worship.
We’re beginning a new sermon series called Tips for the Modern Family.  Families these days look a little different than they did in the past.  They come in all sizes, shapes and combinations, some we’re born into and others we choose. No matter what our families look like, the people we call family and the relationships we share with them are important.   Therefore, over the next three weeks, we’ll be focusing our attention on our most important relationships and how we might strengthen them so they will last.
This week we’ll be taking a look at how to improve our relationship with the most significant person in our life. I’ll be talking about marriage in particular but hope this will provide some good support and tips for anyone in, or hoping to be in, a significant relationship.  Join us and invite your friends to join us as well.  Make a day of it or even better, a date of it.  Come for worship at 9 or 10:45 am and then head to brunch or lunch to talk about the message with your friends, spouse or partners.
This Sunday don’t forget to bring your school supplies for Community Services League’s Back to School Fairs.  There’s more information below.  Also, I want to make sure you get the dates for our next two FaithWorks on your calendars.  We’ve got some great plans for serving our community and we’ll need plenty of hands.

Men’s Group Study  You are invited to explore the eight-week study, Christian—It’s Not What You Think. Ask 100 people what it means to be a Christian and you are likely to get 100 different answers. One reason people have such difficulty defining what a Christian should be is that the Bible never gives a definition. The followers of Jesus did not refer to themselves as Christians; it was a label placed on them from the outside. The early believers called themselves disciples, and the Bible is very clear in defining what a disciple looks like. Jesus gave his disciples one word that should define them. What if we as his followers embodied this one word? What if our behavior was so consistent with this word that folks around us were drawn to us—and to God? Through eight engaging and enlightening small group Bible study sessions on DVD, Andy Stanley unpacks the qualities Jesus prescribes for his followers. Join the men starting Tuesday, August 5, at 6:30 pm for this life-changing study. Sign up online or at Guest Services on Sunday.
Blood Drive Sara Tuttle-Inman Blood Drive for Brain Cancer Awareness – Monday, Aug. 11, 3-7 pm in Fellowship Hall. Visit savealifenow.org and use sponsor code saratuttle to register, or sign up at Guest Services. For more information, email Laura Ward at lauratuttle02@gmail.com.
