In honor of Mother's Day from Ophelia Dahl, Partners In Health for Sunday, 10 May 2015
Today, we honor the mothers who have shaped our lives.
This Mother's Day, I'm thinking of the women I meet at PIH sites who risk their lives to bring children into the world, and who watch their kids suffer for lack of food and medicine. I'm thinking of the mothers and children—for whom we dedicate so much of our work—whose lives can be saved with basic health care.
As we work together to treat more moms and more kids around the world, I'd like to say thank you for your longstanding support—and ask you to consider some of the striking progress we've made this year, for mothers and children from Haiti to Malawi:
In remote Neno, Malawi, where health care remains scarce, we've helped open new maternity and gynecological wards, where some of the nation's poorest, hardest-to-reach women can turn for high-quality health care.
PIH clinicians are now working to treat pregnant women in Sierra Leone, where Ebola's deadly effects still reverberate, and where moms-to-be often go without crucial maternal health care.
In Haiti, Rwanda, and Malawi, we've helped open new, state-of-the-art neonatal wards, bringing specialized care to tiny, often premature, newborns.Together, Gary, we're working to make childbirth safe. We're helping provide critical prenatal care to mothers in need. We're treating babies, and children, with the same quality health care we desire for our own families.
Despite this tremendous progress at PIH sites around the world, one thing is clear: Our work is far from finished.
Today, in honor of mothers around the world, please consider supporting our work.
