L'Arche Canada Foundation of Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada Daily Thought by Jean Vanier for Thursday, 14 May 2015 for "Community or Sect"
Communities are distinguished from sects by the fact that the members of a sect focus on a single authority - their founder, prophet, shepherd, leader or saint. True Christian communities always have a multiplicity of authorities including the founder, the Gospel, the whole tradition of the Church, the bishop, the Holy Father (if they are Roman Catholic) and other Christians living in the spirit of Jesus.[Jean Vanier, Community and Growth, page 144]
