Reflecting God - Embrace Holy Living from The Global Church of the Nazarene of Lenexa, Kansas, United States for Monday, 25 May 2015 - "Choosing The Right Path" Scripture: Psalm 103:(0) By David:
(1) Bless Adonai, my soul!
Everything in me, bless his holy name!
2 Bless Adonai, my soul,
and forget none of his benefits!
3 He forgives all your offenses,
he heals all your diseases,
4 he redeems your life from the pit,
he surrounds you with grace and compassion,
5 he contents you with good as long as you live,
so that your youth is renewed like an eagle’s.
6 Adonai brings vindication and justice
to all who are oppressed.
7 He made his ways known to Moshe,
his mighty deeds to the people of Isra’el.
8 Adonai is merciful and compassionate,
slow to anger and rich in grace.
9 He will not always accuse,
he will not keep his anger forever.
10 He has not treated us as our sins deserve
or paid us back for our offenses,
11 because his mercy toward those who fear him
is as far above earth as heaven.
12 He has removed our sins from us
as far as the east is from the west.
13 Just as a father has compassion on his children,
Adonai has compassion on those who fear him.
14 For he understands how we are made,
he remembers that we are dust.
15 Yes, a human being’s days are like grass,
he sprouts like a flower in the countryside —
16 but when the wind sweeps over, it’s gone;
and its place knows it no more.
17 But the mercy of Adonai on those who fear him
is from eternity past to eternity future,
and his righteousness extends
to his children’s children,
18 provided they keep his covenant
and remember to follow his precepts.
"Choosing The Right Path" by Author: Kimberly Davidson
Fifteen days after the catastrophic 2010 Haiti earthquake, a weak voice was detected from within the rubble in Port-au-Prince. Miraculously, a teenage girl was rescued alive. When we use the word “rescue” we’re usually speaking to issues of life and death. The Bible says when a person wanders off God’s path and is brought back; that person is saved, or rescued, from death. And their sins (disobedience) are forgiven.
God doesn’t merely sweep our sins under the carpet; forgiveness means He gets rid of them for good. Every sin has been sufficiently paid for—through the blood of Jesus Christ. On the contrary, if we don’t accept Jesus’ sacrifice, then we forfeit our own lives, for the wages of sin is death (Romans6:23).
In today’s world it’s easy to slip away from a commitment to God. Every day we must protect our spiritual welfare and walk on the path of truth and life. Let’s take a hard look at our devotion to God. Does our love for Him overflow with praise and gratitude?
Hymn for today: "O Worship the King" by Robert Grant, 1779-1838
1. O worship the King, all glorious above,
O gratefully sing God's power and God's love;
our Shield and Defender, the Ancient of Days,
pavilioned in splendor, and girded with praise.
2. O tell of God's might, O sing of God's grace,
whose robe is the light, whose canopy space,
whose chariots of wrath the deep thunderclouds form,
and dark is God's path on the wings of the storm.
3. The earth with its store of wonders untold,
Almighty, thy power hath founded of old;
hath stablished it fast by a changeless decree,
and round it hath cast, like a mantle, the sea.
4. Thy bountiful care, what tongue can recite?
It breathes in the air, it shines in the light;
it streams from the hills, it descends to the plain,
and sweetly distills in the dew and the rain.
5. Frail children of dust, and feeble as frail,
in thee do we trust, nor find thee to fail;
thy mercies how tender, how firm to the end,
our Maker, Defender, Redeemer, and Friend.
