The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Downtown of Kansas City, Missouri, United States Weekly eNote from Pastor Scott Chrostek - Friday, 15 May 2015
Greetings RezDowntowners,
I am typing today’s eNote while sitting on campus at Adrian College, a United Methodist College in Adrian, MI. This year I was asked to speak at the Detroit Annual Conference, the annual gathering of Methodists in the Michigan area. It has been so fun to reconnect with so many people from my past and to dream with them about the future God has in store! By the time you get this eNote I’ll be preaching in the Friday morning service of worship. Please be sure to say a little prayer for me, that God would use my words to speak a message of hope and renewal! After preaching, I’m heading back to Kansas City for the weekend filled with FaithWork and of course worship. It is so powerful being present at these conferences filled with pastors and lay leaders, not only because it affords me an opportunity to hear about what God is doing elsewhere, but because I also get an opportunity to remember and share about all that God is doing in the heart of downtown Kansas City. I am so proud to be your pastor and to be in ministry with all of you.
I am looking forward to seeing you this weekend both as we get our hands dirty in the business of changing the world through Faithwork, but also in worship. As a side note, we will have a gift for each graduate present in worship this weekend! Graduates – please stop by in person at the Connection Point in either building to pick up your gift—and congratulations!
In the meantime, here are several ways to connect to the life of the church:

Once a month, Resurrection Downtown invites everyone to spend a Saturday morning in service to our city, as we are committed to being a church that reaches out and serves others. Our next opportunity isSaturday, May 16, 9 am at 1522 McGee. We will be working with Don Bosco (serves the elderly and refugees), Upper Room (tutors kids), Community LINC (supports families with no place to live) and Happy Bottoms (provides diapers for families in need). We will also have an onsite project for people of all ages creating appreciation gifts for teachers at local elementary schools. Just show up at the church, bring a friend and we will send you out to serve! The Knitting Group will take the summer off and come back this fall. Learn more at rezdowntown.org/faithwork. The BBQ Clubwill not be meeting this month after FaithWork.
Matthew’s Ministry Spring Event – Individuals of all ages with special needs and their siblings are invited to a fun-filled day of activities and fellowship while parents and caregivers take an afternoon for themselves, Sunday, May 17, 1-4 pm, 1522 McGee. You do not need to be a member to participate. Parents/caregivers are welcome to stay if they choose for the first half hour or the full time to help their loved ones get acclimated. For information, contact Hannah Murray at hannah.murray@cor.org.
Make It On Monday meets May 18 at 7 pm at 1522 McGee. Join us to make bath fizzies – just the thing to help you relax now that summer is almost here! Please bring a bowl you don’t mind throwing away, and any essential oils if you would like to add a fragrance to your bath bomb (purchase essential oils at any local organic grocery store). Participation limited to 15, so please RSVP to amandatspake@gmail.com. For more information, visitrezdowntown.org/makeitonmonday. This will be the last meeting until fall, as we take a break for summer.
RezMoMs – Join us Tuesday, May 19, 6:30-8:30 pm as we gather to hear Pastor Anne Williams talk about “How Your Child Parents You!” Each month we spend an evening with other mothers of early childhood and elementary school age children in fellowship and to learn ways to care for our families and ourselves. Please bring a light snack to share if you have time, and friends are always welcome! Email Kristen Sayers at klynsayers@gmail.com for more information. Visit rezdowntown.org/rezmoms to register for childcare.
Just One Month Until Vacation Bible Camp – Don’t Miss Your Chance to Register! June 15-18, 5:30-8:30 pm – Includes dinner every night, camp T-Shirt, crafts, snacks and more. Camp is for children age 3 as of Sept. 1, 2014, through current 5th grade. Younger children may attend only with adult volunteer. To volunteer or to register your child, visit rezdowntown.org/vbc or contact Bailey Amtower at baileyew@gmail.com or Kris.Drummond@rezdowntown.org.
Become a Communion Server. An easy, but great way to do so is by volunteering as a communion server. We serve communion every weekend in worship and it takes a dedicated team of volunteers for this to happen. We’d love to have your help, even just once a month, and you can choose which service you’d like to serve. To sign up or for questions, emailJackie.Thomas@cor.org.
