Greetings Resurrection Blue Springs,
Greetings on this soggy Friday morning. I'm sitting in a coffee shop watching the rain drizzle outside between hospital visits this morning. One of my privileges as a pastor is to pray with church members before they head into surgery. I am always blessed to have these moments to connect with families and offer scripture and a word of prayer. Facing any kind of medical procedure often brings anxiety and to be able to offer a comforting word and a reminder of God's amazing healing power and presence is a joy for me. I say this to encourage you to let me know if you have a medical procedure ahead or something that I could offer prayers for with you. I also work with a great team of Congregational Care Ministers. These are church members who have completed a training process to serve with me in providing care for our members. I'm pleased to announce that Patsy Shipley has completed the training and is joining our care team at Blue Springs. Jim Barber, Shannon Coster, Meg Dudgeon and Jean Lanahan are our current CCM's. If you'd have interest in learning more about joining this team of care providers, I'd love to talk with you about it.
Don't forget that this Sunday is Mother's Day. To honor the special women in our lives this Mother's Day weekend, Pastor Adam will share stories of the best and worst moms in the Bible! Come worship with us for this special message blending humor with inspiration. Worship at 9 or 10:45 am is a great way to gather the family all together and begin your mother's day celebration. This weekend and next in worship we'll be offering a sign up for Building Better Moms. This is a once or twice a month opportunity beginning this fall for moms to come together for fellowship, support and learning. It's for any mom with new-born through high school age kids. We've got a great team spear heading this venture and they are very excited to start our 2nd year. They've been working on a speaker schedule with information especially pertinent to the challenges of mothers and infusing more fellowship time into this falls schedule. Look for the BBM table this Sunday to get more information and sign up.
I want to make sure you've got next Friday's (May 15th) Faithwork on your calendar. We're working with our Downtown campus to host a Fun Day for the students at our partner school, Wendell Phillips Elementary. We have all kinds of fun activities planned for the kids and could use extra hands to lead them. If you're off on Friday or have opportunity in your work place to take a day to serve, this would be a great opportunity. If you can't make it Friday, there's another serving option on Saturday with the Hillcrest Transitional Housing 5k Walk/Run. This walk raises money to provide transitional housing and education to give the homeless of our city a hand up. There's more information about both of these events below.
And one more bit of news for our middle and high school students. Rezlife will not meet on Sunday evening so that our youth can spend the day with mom! They will gather back the following Sunday (March 17) for their year end party.
