Resurrection West,
Greetings from the Great Plains Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church gathering in Topeka this morning. Each year all clergy and lay delegates come together for the church business of our annual conference. I’d like to thank our many delegates from Resurrection who are serving this year (including two from West - Dick Holdman and John Yost). We’ve heard reports from our General Conference representatives, approved new clergy to serve, and celebrated Bishop Scott Jones and his wife Mary Lou after 12 years of service as our Episcopal leader. We will be welcoming a new Bishop later this year.
This Sunday we continue the Adventure series with a look at the adventures of Gideon in the Old Testament book of Judges and how that connects with a neat story here at West. At 19 years old Andrew and Katie decided they wanted to attempt to bicycle across America. They actually met in rezlife west youth group and last summer it was my privilege to officiate their wedding. In our premarital counseling sessions, I learned of their adventure. We interviewed them this week and I can’t wait to share the story. Sunday’s theme is Never Stop. It will be inspiring and fun so please reach out and invite a friend!
Thank you to the many of you who were encouragers - just like Barnabus - to my daughter Hailey last Sunday. She was very excited after she helped to preach the message of Never Giving Up to kick-off this Adventure series. By the end of the day I learned that we had a 93 year old and as young as 17 weeks old worshiping together - now that’s a “family worship Sunday” worth celebrating! It’s such an honor to serve a congregation that is so nurturing and supportive of the next generation. May we continue to model Jesus command of “letting the children come to Him”. If you were traveling and missed last week’s message it is posted on our Facebook page here or also directly on our web-site here.
Please join me in welcoming Kirsten Baxter to our staff team as a summer intern. Kirsten grew up in Ankeny, Iowa and just completed her sophomore year at Iowa State University studying Landscape Architecture with minors in Environmental Studies and French. Kirsten was very active in her high school youth group which included leading small groups for mission trips & middle school retreats and was on the leadership team that helped support the mission of the youth group. She has a strong passion in reaching out to all people and welcoming them into a life of faith. Her favorite ways to be active in faith include going to Bible studies, reading scripture, and listening to Hillsong's "Oceans" on repeat. Kirsten loves being outdoors especially to hike, sketch, run, and hammock. She is also better than average at parallel parking and can be motivated by Starburst jelly beans. Kirsten will be working closest with Rick Webb, our Youth Pastor, but you will see her across every ministry as she explores what full-time vocational ministry looks like. She is one of 18 interns across our 4 campuses this summer who will be learning and growing in their adventure to serve God! I’ll be introducing her at each service this Sunday. We’ve posted a couple of pics from Kirsten on our Facebook page here.

During the school year, our children’s ministry welcomes over 300 kids every week. That’s 300 faces we get to lock eyes with, 300 hands we get to high-five, 300 names we call out in recognition, 300 hearts and minds that need to know they matter to God. For the 9 months of our school year, an army of 150 volunteers commit to serving children and families in this way each and every month. It’s our pleasure to give them a break during the summer to say thank you and provide a time of renewal. To continue to reach children, keep them safe and help them know the truth about who they are, a fresh summer volunteer team is vital. We invite you to walk alongside our children as they grow in their faith and as they ask important questions. You might just find yourself growing in your own faith as you serve. We’ll equip you with all you need to get started. Please sign up today at cor.org/west/teamsummer or contactchristie.walker@cor.org.
Rainbow Room - summer adjustment!
Do you have a child in the Rainbow Room in KiDSCOR? Make note of their room change this summer! Starting June 5th, children normally in the Rainbow Room and having a birthdate between 8/31/13 - 3/1/12 will check in to the Butterfly Room. Those with birthdates between 2/29/12 - 9/1/10 will check in to the Sonshine Room. It’s our hope to utilize the space of our growing Nursery and Early Childhood ministries to best care for all of our little ones during the summer months. Thank you for your flexibility!

Resurrection West Sports Camp and Vacation Bible Camp, “Meet the Royals”! Two great opportunities for kids this summer, one amazing week of fun! Registration is now open for RezWest Sports Camp and RezWest VBC. Both camps will take place June 20-24; Sports camp (Basketball, Soccer, Flag Football & Cheerleading) will be held in the morning, followed by VBC “Meet the Royals” in the afternoon. Register for one or both of these events. A supervised “sack lunch” time will be held for those who participate in both activities. We hope to help hundreds of kids grow in faith, wisdom and friendship through these programs, so we will need many volunteers - youth and adults! All parents who volunteer for VBC and have children younger than kindergarten will be able to register their little ones in early childhood VBC or nursery. If you are interested in participating in or volunteering for either camp, please go to cor.org/west/VBC2016 for more information and registration.
Thursday LIVE! Register today for the women's summer study - Normal people are stressed, overwhelmed, and exhausted. And when it comes to God, the majority believe in him, but the teachings of scripture rarely make it into their everyday lives. Simply put, normal isn’t working. Join us as we study Craig Groeschel’s book, “Weird, Because Normal Isn’t Working”. Class dates are July 7, 14, 21 and 28, meeting from 9:30-11:30am. Childcare is available with registration at cor.org/west/thursdaylive.

Holy Land Trip – Nov 14-23. Join Resurrection West pastor Jason Gant and Resurrection Blue Springs pastor Penny Elwood on this amazing 10-day tour, Walking in the Footsteps of Jesus. Information brochures are available at the RezWest front desk. Contact Debbie.Dietz@cor.org with questions.
Finally, please note that our emergency pastoral care number has changed (bolded below). The new number is 913-314-6058 and is posted weekly at the conclusion of this eNote, on our web-site, and on the voicemail you get when you call the West Campus office line after hours. This number reaches Pastor Chris Holiday or myself depending on the day and time (we alternate receiving emergency care calls). We are utilizing a new system that we believe will be more effective in care response across each campus and the changing of the numbers was necessary.
Looking forward to worshiping with you this Sunday,
Pastor Jason
