Greetings RezDowntowners,
I have been in Topeka, KS since Wednesday morning along with 1600 other clergy and lay leaders at the Great Plains Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church in both Kansas and Nebraska! Being that RezDowntown is located in Kansas City, MO I would argue that Missouri is represented here as well! While away one member texted me that since May 5th, 173,751 people have taken a ride on the KCStreetcar. How cool is that?! I was riding it earlier this week and as I got off at the Kauffman Center stop on 16th street, you could see a clear path leading the way to our future location on the KC Star parking lot! How cool to think about how many people will use that Streetcar to come to worship in the years ahead! Last week, the City Council formally approved our zoning request, which paved the way for our Building Committee to work full steam ahead on design! I can't wait to share with you that committee's work.
While I’ve been away in Topeka, I am happy to share that we have officially welcomed our newest staff member, Rev. Patrick McGlaughlin who started his tenure with us as Community Pastor on Wednesday, June 1. Patrick moved to Kansas City a few weeks ago, along with his wife Megan, after having served at Manhattan First United Methodist Church in Manhattan, KS for the past three years. We are thrilled to have him join our team and I’m excited for you to meet him in worship this weekend. Pastor Patrick will be present at each one of our worship services this weekend, so please be sure to stop by and meet our newest pastor!
Finally, I’m excited to share with you that I will also be present in worship at RezDowntown this weekend. I’ll be here to introduce Patrick, but also to introduce my wife, Rev. Wendy Lyons Chrostek as this weekend’s preacher. Wendy is a fantastic pastor, mom and wife! She’s also a phenomenal preacher! As we continue our sermon series on Unsettled: Asking the Tough Questions, I’m privileged to share that she’ll be stepping into the pulpit to preach for me this weekend so that I can be downtown with you. I am excited for you to hear her as God continues to push us with Questions as the Answer toward our pursuit of the life that really is life.
This is going to be a great weekend friends. I cannot wait to see you! In the meantime, here are a variety of ways to get connected to the life of this church:
