Hello Resurrection Blue Springs!
It looks like we're in for a rainy weekend these last few days of April. The birds don't seem to mind it though. I've been watching five brilliant yellow goldfinches cavorting around in my backyard against a backdrop of green. It's really quite beautiful.
Everyday now the feeder is empty by dark. I suppose it takes a lot of energy to build nests and chase after willing partners. My son's been up in lake country in Minnesota and in a phone call last week he was outside in the evening and I could barely hear him for the call of the loons in the background. On this particular lake where he's staying, there is a pair of loons that has returned year after year to the same nest. We used to think loons mate for life but unfortunately, for I'm a romantic at heart, it's a little more complicated than that. Loons have to work to defend their territories from territorial intruders to keep their mates and their nesting spots. Doesn't sound a lot different than our human relationships, does it?
This weekend we continue our Birds and the Bees series. We'll be taking about the power and importance of having a committed love relationship and how to ensure this love will last for a lifetime. The sermon is entitled the ‘Keys to a Happily Ever After.’ Coming to know and love your partner can be difficult and painful at times -- yet it is also a most rewarding and glorious experience. It can bring joy to our lives and bring us closer to God. Join us this Sunday in worship as we explore the mysteries of marriage and don't forget to invite your friends to hear this important message.
If you have a marriage that could use some retooling, you might consider taking part in the Relationship Workshop being offered on our Leawood campus. Make sure to take a look at it and the other upcoming ways to get connected to the life of our congregation . . .
