I love to garden. I planted two gardens in my backyard. These gardens are full of colorful plants that attract butterflies.
One day I realized that there were many weeds in my gardens. These weeds were keeping the flowers from growing. I had many excuses for not taking care of my gardens - I had been gone, it had rained, I was too tired. So I got down on my knees and weeded the gardens for several hours. Finally, I decided this job would have been easier if I had pulled the weeds more often.
I needed to remove the weeds from my gardens so that my plants would grow. In the same way, I need to remove sin from my life if I want to grow in Jesus. Verse 1b of our Bible Reading says, "We should remove from our lives anything that would slow us down and the sin that so often makes us fall."
We need to do this every day. Examine your life today and remove things that are keeping you from following God.
