Edward "Eddie" Estep was appointed as superintendent of the Kansas City District, effective 1 March. Read more
Edward "Eddie" Estep has been appointed as superintendent for the Kansas City District in consultation with the District Advisory Council and Board of General Superintendents. Gustavo A. Crocker, general superintendent in jurisdiction, made the appointment effective 1 March.
Upon the election of Jeren Rowell — then superintendent of the Kansas City District — to the office of president of Nazarene Theological Seminary, the District Advisory Council created a candidate profile based on the district's current needs. Many names were considered by the council, and it recommended a list of potential candidates to the Board of General Superintendents for their approval, eventually deciding upon Estep.
Estep is currently superintendent of the South Carolina District, a position he has held since 2006. Prior to this, he pastored churches in Columbus, Ohio; Maysville, Kentucky; Ripley, West Virginia; and Parkersburg, West Virginia.
"I am pleased to conclude such an engaging process of consultation with the appointment of Eddie Estep," Crocker said. "Dr. Estep brings to the table years of experience as district superintendent, pastor, and as a trainer of new district superintendents on the USA/Canada Region and abroad. He will certainly help the district continue with its outstanding trajectory of leadership, mission, and outreach for the sake of the Kingdom and to the glory of God."
Estep served on the Board of Trustees for Nazarene Bible College, Nazarene Theological Seminary, and Mount Vernon Nazarene University. He also served as secretary on the MVNU Board and on the Regional Course of Study Advisory Council for the USA/Canada Region. Estep served on various district boards in Eastern Kentucky and Central Ohio and as district Nazarene Youth International president for West Virginia North. He was elected to the Church of the Nazarene's General Board in 2005 and currently serves on the District Superintendents' Advisory Council and on the Board of Trustees for Trevecca Nazarene University as vice chairman.
Eddie and his wife, Diane, currently reside in West Columbia, South Carolina.
'The last shall be first': Sudhir's story
Sudhir was always underestimated because of his disability. Today he is pastoring 25 house churches across Chikli, India. Read more
Sudhir had just finished his junior college in Chandikapur, India, and was thinking about how to earn an income. Since he was the oldest son, he felt the responsibility to provide for his family. But Sudhir had a problem. He was born with a disability: his arms were shorter than average and they both bent inward. This made things difficult for him when he began looking for a job. Because of his arms, people always underestimated his abilities, considered him a liability, and rejected him for any job.
Sudhir's friends knew his ability and came to support him. They told him about an opportunity serving with a village official cleaning the village gutters, which are often full of soil and wastewater. Sometimes even the overflowing water from latrines and toilets would get into them. Despite all of this, Sudhir took the job to support his family.
One day, his aunt Vandana convinced him to move to Chikhli, where she could arrange a better job for him. She introduced Sudhir to the management team at the school where she worked, and they hired him as a school bus assistant.
Vandana and her family attended church regularly, and when Sudhir moved to Chikhli he also went with them.
One day Sudhir was asked by the pastor to go on a ride with him. He spoke with Sudhir about the real disability in human beings’ life: sin. Sudhir had never heard about this. He became curious and started paying close attention to what the pastor was saying. The pastor also introduced him to a remedy for this “sin disability,” and Sudhir realized this was what he needed. The pastor led him in the prayer of repentance, and Sudhir accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior.

Sudhir’s family were overjoyed by this news and, along with the pastor, they discipled him daily. Sudhir kept growing in faith and eventually was baptized.
A few months later, the church started a Bible course for young people. Sudhir enrolled and caught on quickly.
Later on, he was sent to another city as an assistant pastor, and Sudhir proved himself to be a "Timothy" to the church. When the senior pastor moved to another city, Sudhir was given charge of the congregation. He worked hard under the guidance of the Holy Spirit and his superintendent, and his church kept growing.
Today, Sudhir is providing leadership to about 25 different house churches across his city. He has built a team of evangelists around him, and the Lord is constantly blessing his efforts. (Church of the Nazarene Eurasia)

The tricolor flag of Guinea Conakry features the Pan-African colors, symbolizing the unity of the African nations. Red symbolizes the blood spilt by the martyrs in the fight for independence. Yellow stands for the abundance of mineral resources, especially gold in the nation, and the bright sun that shines over the land. Green represents the vegetation, forests, and other natural resources in addition to the prosperity and the fertile soils of the nation.
Since September 1, 2009, the Church of the Nazarene's Global Ministry Center (GMC) proudly flies a flag each week of one of the many nations in which the denomination is present in ministry. Authors gather in Mexico, aim to strengthen church through resources

Read moreThe Mesoamerica Region recently held its first Wesleyan Writers Development Meeting to train authors who can write theological books, lessons for regional curriculum, and other materials. There were 28 participants, representing the majority of Mexico's districts.
The event, held 6 to 8 December, sought to encourage, awaken a passion for writing, support and help grow writers, as well as enrich the Church of the Nazarene through new authors.
When Jorge Córdova, Mexico field strategy coordinator, received a conviction from God about this need for Mexico, he did not know that the Lord had planted the same concern in Rubén Fernández, regional coordinator of education and pastoral development for Mesoamerica. They talked about this dream and in less than a year it became a reality. This is the first of a series of meetings that took place in the region.
"The Lord still calls us to write the vision, just as he asked the prophet Habakkuk and the apostle John," Fernández said. "Probably no longer in tables or scrolls, but in the multiple forms of publication that exist in the digital age. What we write today will reach unimaginable places and will be a blessing to many people that we may never know in this life. As a result, the church will be strengthened and consolidated. We are grateful to God and to all those who made this event possible, which was undoubtedly a transformative experience for all of us."
Global Nazarene Publications through Scott Stargel provided housing, and the CAP Church of the Nazarene in Oaxaca hosted the event and supplied food.
Ely Camas, president of Mexico Nazarene Seminary, worked with Córdova to select writers to participate. Mónica Mastronardi de Fernández, general editor for Mesoamerica, led the conference and shared during the morning workshops. Church of the Nazarene General Editor Frank Moore shared two workshops with Camas and Elías Betanzos, including interactive sessions and practical activities.
There was also a panel of experts composed of Monte Cyr, regional coordinator of discipleship ministries, Stargel, and Córdova. It was also attended by Wilfredo Marciaga, regional literature coordinator.

Trevecca to offer adult, graduate degree programs in Atlanta area
Trevecca Nazarene University’s School of Graduate and Continuing Studies will begin offering classes in the greater Atlanta area in the fall of 2018, pending state approvals. Read more
Classes will be offered in two locations — one in Duluth and another in College Park. The Duluth location, 3575 Koger Blvd., will serve Gwinnett County and the north Atlanta region, while the College Park site, 1800 Phoenix Blvd., will serve Clayton County and south Atlanta.
“This decision builds on Trevecca’s long tradition of providing adult and graduate learners with degree programs that fit their unique needs and schedules,” said Tim Eades, associate provost and vice president for graduate and continuing studies. “We’re excited to offer these quality programs in Atlanta and help more students achieve their educational and professional goals.”
The university has experienced dynamic growth in recent years, particularly among SGCS students, where enrollment has increased 47 percent in three years. Total enrollment at the Nashville-based university, which offers traditional undergraduate degrees as well as adult, graduate and online programs, has increased 50 percent from fall 2013 to fall 2017.
“In this changing world, we want to continue to find creative ways to meet the needs of students who seek Christian higher education,” said Dan Boone, Trevecca president. “These new locations in Atlanta will allow us to build on the legacy of quality education that Trevecca has offered in Nashville for more than 100 years.”
Trevecca began exploring the possibility of offering classes in the Atlanta area more than two years ago. Trevecca alumnus and Gwinnett County native Michael Runyan was instrumental in helping the university locate property.
For more than 30 years, Trevecca has offered degree programs at off-campus satellite locations, all designed to meet students where they live. In Atlanta, classes will take place on evenings and weekends and include associate, bachelor’s, degree-completion, and graduate offerings.
Pending state approval with the Georgia Nonpublic Postsecondary Education Commission, the programs offered in Atlanta will include:
Start dates and other information will be provided in the near future as the approval process continues. (Trevecca Nazarene University)
