LGBT Adults Fear Discrimination in Long-Term Care

They are also concerned that they will face discrimination or harassment in long-term care facilities. Those are the findings of a new AARP survey of LGBT adults age 45-plus, 'Maintaining Dignity: Understanding and Responding to the Challenges Facing Older LGBT Americans."

Spotting Alzheimer's Early Could Save America $7.9 Trillion

"The cost of caring for Americans with Alzheimer's will rise by $20 billion this year, compared with 2017 spending. That doesn't include the burden that falls on unpaid caregivers such as family and friends, who last year provided 18.4 billion hours of unpaid care. The hours were calculated based on a follow-up analysis of results from the 2009 National Alliance for Caregiving/AARP national telephone survey."

Call for Participants: Living With and Caring For a Post- 9/11 Veteran or Service Member with a TBI
The U.S. Department of Defense has awarded a research grant to Duquesne University School of Nursing to learn what it is like to provide care and assistance to a Service Member or Veteran with a traumatic brain injury (TBI). Call for Participants: A Global Survey of the Health Behaviors and Health-Related Needs of Informal Caregivers
A team of researchers at the School of Medicine and Public Health at the University of Newcastle are conducting a global online survey of caregivers in order to study the prevalence of health risk behaviors and unmet needs of informal caregivers of a person with a health concern requiring in-home care. Greater Wisconsin Agency on Aging Resources, Inc.
The Greater Wisconsin Agency on Aging Resources, Inc. (GWAAR) announces the third annual Wisconsin Aging Advocacy Day (#WIAAD) on May 16, 2018 in Madison and encourages the public to participate in this important day focused on educating legislators about specific policy issues and proposals to enhance the aging network's role in building and supporting resilience among Wisconsin's older adults. Advocacy Tip of the Week
Advocate on behalf of existing programs that support caregivers.Caregiver advocates should develop a basic understanding of programs offered under the Older Americans Act, such as the National Family Caregiver Support Program, and administered through the Administration of Community Living under the Department of Health and Human Services. These programs are typically aimed at supporting those in the community with serious conditions or disabilities across the lifespan.
