Weekly eNote from Pastor Jason Gant for Friday, 13 July 2018 from The United Methodist Church of the Ressurrection West in Olathe, Kansas, United States
Resurrection West,
This Sunday will be an exciting day in worship as we dig into Black Panther, continuing in our series on the Gospel in Film. Black Pantherhas grossed over 1.3 billion, making it the 9th highest grossing film of all time, and the director and cast have a unique connection to one another from prior movies they’ve collaborate on. Black Pantherreveals a deep look at our humanity, community, and culture. Pastor Scott Chrostek will be preaching, and I believe this will be an inspiring and important message as we seek to live as followers of Christ. Join me and invite your friends to worship with us at 8am, 9:30am, 11am, or 5pm!
I’ve spent this week on retreat with a group of our staff from across all campuses dreaming, praying, team-building and strategizing. Retreating away is a good reminder that we need to make space for God in and through all we do. Luke 5 tells us that Jesus withdrew to pray. He set the example for us and so I’ll hope you’ll consider taking some time to withdraw in prayer connecting with God. When I do this, it strengthens my soul and aligns me with God’s will. I always return inspired and convicted even more to do God’s good and beautiful work.
Finally, thank you to so many who picked up a school supply bag last week. Each bag of supplies will bless both student and teacher at Ridgeview and Fairview Elementary, our two partner schools. There are a few left to pick up this Sunday.
Looking forward to worshipping with you,
Jason

DIY July Serve Saturdays
July is “do it yourself” serve month! On any day of the week, help someone in need. Do some yard work for a neighbor who is going through a hard time; visit with patients at a nursing home; sort donations at a food or clothing pantry or at a thrift store; take a plate of cookies to a Fire House or Police Station with a card of thanks; give your undivided attention to a person who needs it; fill a school supply drive bag for Ridgeview, etc. Then, post updates/pictures of your DIY serving adventures, #RezWestJulyServe. Have a great July as you follow the example of Jesus and spend time loving and serving your neighbors!
