Resurrection Blue Springs,
Good morning! I hope you’re enjoying the cooler weather after the deluge this week. I’m praying for our neighbors who were effected by the flood waters and those of you that experienced water challenges brought on by the storms.
In last Sunday’s sermon, Pastor Adam spoke about the power of persistent and sacrificial love as we explored the gospel themes in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. He reminded us that giving of ourselves is a remedy against becoming selfish and narcissistic. As an example of what this might look like, Pastor Adam pointed to the 125 members in our congregation that are engaging in these actions by tutoring in our lowest income schools in the inner city to help teach, bless and encourage these children. Our desire as a church is to double this number of tutors. If you’ve ever considered tutoring or volunteering with children, I wanted you to know that this fall we’ll have 7 of these tutors carpooling from Blue Springs every Tuesday to work at Phillips at Attucks Elementary School and you’d be welcome to join them. If you’d like to know more about it email rezblueserve@cor.org.
We have another opportunity to share in this sacrificial love this week with our blood drive. In June, the Community Blood Center declared an emergency blood shortage in Kansas City. They stated that there isn’t enough blood on the shelves or blood drives on the calendar to meet patient needs during the summer months. Resurrection-Blue Springs is trying to do its part to help eliminate this shortage by hosting a blood drive this coming Thursday, Aug. 3 from 3:30-7:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall. Our church has averaged 21 appointments, 18 registered donors and 17 pints of blood collected at its last three drives. I think we have the potential to do much better. I want to encourage you to make time in your schedules on Thursday to offer this live saving gift and to take a flyer from this week’s bulletin and post it in your work space or encourage a friend to come roll up their sleeves with you. You can make an appointment right now by going to esavealifenow.org and using our sponsor Code: CORBS.
And while you’re inviting, invite that friend to join us in worship on Sunday too. This Sunday I’ll be preaching a message about our yearning to belong and how God desires to fill this need for home that we all experience in our lives.
In the meantime, be sure to check out the other upcoming opportunities to serve, grow and connect with our community below. . . .

Serve as a Tutor – Give an hour each week as a tutor at our partner school Phillips at Attucks to help a student improve their chances of academic success. Popsicles in the Park! Load up the kids and meet us at various parks on Wednesdays at6:30 pm throughout the summer for a play date. We will bring the popsicles, you bring your kids and some friends! Join us August 2 at Pink Hill Park - Blue Springs. This will be the final meeting for this summer.

Celebrate with Us at the Backyard Block Party! Join our Resurrection Blue Springs community and neighbors on Sunday, August 13, 5pm, on our church lawn. Enjoy BBQ sundaes, a pie baking contest, homemade ice cream, inflatables, games, fun and fellowship. We’ll have something special for anyone who brings a jar of peanut butter or a canned good for our weekend backpack program. Mark your calendars and invite your friends and neighbors. Sign up at Guest Services to help with the party set-up, serving food, games or clean-up. Plus... We’ll be having a pie contest, so if you’ve got a favorite recipe that you think can take the cake – er, pie – then enter by signing up at Guest Services on Sunday. I look forward to seeing you this Sunday in worship.
Grace and peace,
Penny
