The Deaf Devo - The Deaf Missions in Council Bluffs, Iowa, United States for Saturday, 29 July 2017 "Bible Buildings (8)" Bible Reading: Luke 12:16-21
Luke 12:16 And he gave them this illustration: “There was a man whose land was very productive. 17 He debated with himself, ‘What should I do? I haven’t enough room for all my crops.’ 18 Then he said, ‘This is what I will do: I’ll tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and I’ll store all my wheat and other goods there. 19 Then I’ll say to myself, “You’re a lucky man! You have a big supply of goods laid up that will last many years. Start taking it easy! Eat! Drink! Enjoy yourself!”’ 20 But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night you will die! And the things you prepared — whose will they be?’ 21 That’s how it is with anyone who stores up wealth for himself without being rich toward God.”

Farmers use their barns to give shelter to animals, store their crops and keep their farm equipment. Our Bible Reading today is another story that Jesus told His disciples. This story is about a rich man. His land produced so well that he didn't have enough space to store his crops. So the man decided to tear down his barns and build bigger barns. But God said to the man (verse 20), "Foolish man! Tonight you will die. So what about the things you prepared for yourself? Who will get those things now?"
Did Jesus mean that people should not build barns? No! In this story, Jesus was talking about people who are greedy and always want more. We should not spend our time trying to get more money and things. Instead, we should use our time building our relationship with God and doing good things for others.
Thank God today for helping you wait patiently for Jesus.
"This is how it will be for anyone
who saves things only for himself.
To God that person is not rich."
[Luke 12:21]
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I want to focus on You instead of focusing on things in this world. In Jesus' name. Amen.
