Leawood, Kansas, United States - The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Daily Guide grow. pray. study. for Sunday, 25 May 2014 "Prayer Tip"
Prayer Tip:
This beautiful print hangs near my desk in Congregational Care at the Leawood Campus. If you are visiting Building C, stop by and see it! It was a wonderful gift from a dear friend while I was going through cancer surgery and treatment. She said she saw it and just thought I should have it. It's amazing the way the Holy Spirit works sometimes. She didn't even know that the Scripture verse I went back to every day during that time, and many times since, was a prayer found in Psalm 57:
Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me,
for in you my soul takes refuge;
in the shadow of your wings I will take refuge,
until the destroying storms pass by.
This week in the GPS, we will learn about "Bracing for Impact," and read about facing fears of all kinds, so I offer this image and this verse as a prayer for the week. If you like, you can use image and the scripture together in your prayer time. What "destroying storms" have come through your life? Where do you find refuge, as one version of Psalm 57 says, "until the disaster has passed?" Spend some time with the image – put yourself in the picture, look out at the world from the vantage point of the woman resting in the safety of the wings. How do things look from this safe place?
This safe place may not mean that the storm will not touch you. But in the shadow of God's love and mercy, even if the impact of the storm is severe, you can find refuge, strength and peace to wait it out until it passes by.
Blessings,
(Jennifer Creagar, Prayer Ministry)
