It seems like I was just packing up all of my Christmas decorations and lent and Easter have already passed. As I am writing this, I am working on various projects and writing assignments. The most recent project is putting some details together for this year’s family retreat with Joni and Friends. The theme is Hope Overflows.
As I think about what it means to have hope overflowing, I am reminded of a saying that Pastor Scott frequently says, “we are prisoners of hope.” Life may not be as we had dreamed or imagined. Some days are just plain difficult. You may feel like nothing will ever change. Or that person in your life will never change. May I encourage you that hope can overflow. If you are
hoping to win the lottery your hope is probably misplaced. However, if your hope is found in Jesus it can and will overflow. May these words from a childhood hymn encourage you as they do me.
My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus' blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus' name.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.
2. When darkness veils His lovely face,
I rest on His unchanging grace;
In every high and stormy gale
My anchor holds within the veil.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.
3. His oath, His covenant, and blood
Support me in the whelming flood;
When every earthly prop gives way,
He then is all my Hope and Stay.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.
4. When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh, may I then in Him be found,
Clothed in His righteousness alone,
Faultless to stand before the throne!
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.
Be a prisoner of Hope.
