NMI Highlight
As we celebrate the Triumphal entry this Palm Sunday (March 29th) and head into Holy Week, may we each reflect on what the sacrifice of Jesus means to us individually. May the realization of that precious gift help transform our hearts and lives to reflect Jesus' love in all we do and say.
Because He Lives, we can face tomorrow, knowing that the Holy Spirit is present in us to help us as we endeavor to live lives that lead others to know Him.
With so many countries celebrating Holy Week, this is the perfect time to have conversations with others about who Jesus is and what His death and resurrection means for them. Pray that God would guide you today to the person in whom He has already been at work, preparing their heart to hear and respond.
World Evangelism is the focus for theEaster Offering which is the NMI Focus for March. That every tongue may confess. Jesus may be asking you to give financially, but He may also be asking you to give of yourself. Active mission involvement, can mean going as far away as the other side of the world, or right next door. What is Jesus calling you to do?

Photography Etiquette, Know Before You Go!
Some incidents of concern have been arising in the news across the Asia-Pacific Region over the past few months. As we approach the summer season and increased short-term mission trips, we wanted to take a moment to share some thoughts from a recent government security update.
The existence of smartphones and other photography tools has made picture taking easier and more convenient. We want to immortalize memories by snapping photos of just about everything- people, sites and scenery, even new and exciting experiences. This especially holds true whenever we travel, be it local or abroad.
However, photography etiquette has evolved through the years. What was considered acceptable back then may not be the case at present. If we are not careful, we might find ourselves in uncompromising situations. It is best that we educate ourselves particularly when we travel out of the country to protect us from possible security and legal risks.
Here are some guidelines we should observe whenever we take photos during our travels:
- Conduct oneself in a courteous manner- Risque photos, improper skin exposure, and other similar behavior might be considered inappropriate in some, if not most countries.
- Read building signs, follow and listen to site rules and regulations-
- Some establishments and scenery are not allowed for photography. This might include government buildings, embassies, restricted areas, military facilities, religious structures and heritage sites. In most tourist destinations, a signage will often be posted if photography is not allowed. It is also helpful to read the rules and regulations located at the entrance of the establishment or if there is a guide explaining their dos and don'ts, it is always a good idea to listen.
- When in doubt, approach the authorities- There are some places where the use of the "selfie stick" (an adjustable rod used to take photos of oneself beyond the normal range of an arm) is banned. In cases when there is no signage or signage is unclear, make sure to ask the authorities if taking photos and use of photography paraphernalia are permitted.
- Ask for the person's consent- When taking photos of individuals or a group of people, it is but polite to ask them first if he/she or they are agreeable to being photographed. This comes handy, for example, in places that are not commonly visited by tourists and locals become easily suspicious of strangers. Taking photos of the residents, especially children might cause alarm and provoke panic and violence. There are even countries where it is illegal to take photos of people unless everyone included has given permission.
- Familiarize oneself with the area's basic policies, customs and traditions- There are certain countries where taking "selfies" and posting them online are illegal. There are also areas where taking photos of people might go against spiritual beliefs of the locals and is deemed disrespectful. Take time to do a little research and read about the place where you will visit.
- Many Airlines Are Restricting Camera Use On Board- Beware. There have been several incidents in the past few months where passengers on airlines have been surprised to be informed that taking pictures of themselves and others while onboard, violates airline policies. In some cases, passengers have actually been removed from the aircraft, one travel writer just for taking a picture of the entertainment system at his seat. Be sure you check with the airline cabin crew before taking a picture at the risk of cutting your travel plans short.
- Depending on the country involved, visitors who violate local law or custom can be placed in jail, charged with fines, and/or be declared persona non grata.
- As the saying goes, "Ignorance of the law excuses no one", and it wouldn't hurt if we equip ourselves with knowledge, listen and follow.[Asia-Pacific Work and Witness Coordination]

Thank You For Believing that Prayers Actually Do Make A Difference...Vanuatu is Evidence!
Vanuatu, South Pacific
THANK YOU FOR BELIEVING THAT PRAYERS ACTUALLY DO MAKE A DIFFERENCE…VANUATU IS THAT EVIDENCE!
Port Vila, Vanuatu, South Pacific: On Friday, March 13, 2015, Cyclone Pam, a Category 5 severe cyclone with peak sustained winds of 165 mph (265 kph), passed directly over the island nation of Vanuatu.

After spending several days on the ground assessing the damage, Melanesia South Pacific Field Strategy Coordinator, Harmon Schmelzenbach, gave this heartfelt insight to his experience…
I’ve been making my way out of Vanuatu through Fiji over to Papua New Guinea since last night and I’m almost home.
Vanuatu leaves me with a paradox of emotions to struggle through and process. I’ve ridden out a fair number of cyclones over the years, most were Category 3, some were Category 4, and one was a Category 5, like this one [Pam] that just hit Vanuatu. I rode out two of the cyclones on Nazarene Maritime Ministry vessels. Some we didn’t experience the eye of the storm going over us, some we did…the Category 5 we did.

Many trees could not withstand the incredible forces.
As Cyclone Pam approached, and I realized what we were looking at and that it was going to be a direct hit on the capital of this island nation from a Category 5, I immediately began preparing myself for what I knew would happen. I knew that the physical destruction would be catastrophic and it was not difficult to picture it in my mind because I’ve seen it before. I knew that structures and old solid trees that had never been shaken by anything over lifetimes, would not only be shaken but removed. I knew also that in this island nation of a quarter million people, without question multiplied hundreds, probably well into the thousands would die and tens of thousands would sustain significant injuries. You don’t destroy buildings around people without that happening. You don’t take thousands of razor sharp corrugated iron sheets flying at 100 to 150 mph in every direction without it doing exactly what you can imagine it doing to some percentage of a couple hundred thousand islanders.
“You most certainly will be able to count on the fact that there’ll be human tragedy multiplied out untold times in the vast majorities of families…unless God decides otherwise.”- Melanesia South Pacific Field Strategy Coordinator - Harmon Schmelzenbach

Picking up what’s left.
You don’t take the power of an ocean that was being described to us by mariners as “massive walls of natures fury that no man could stop,” without it taking out whatever is in its path along the endless miles of island coastline. You most certainly will be able to count on the fact that there’ll be human tragedy multiplied out untold times in the vast majorities of families…unless God decides otherwise.
I was right about the physical but I was certainly not right about the the numbers of people who would die or end up injured. None of it makes any sense at all…unless God decided otherwise. There were tragic deaths and there was injury…but I have yet to talk to anyone that doesn’t believe that it was just a fraction compared to what it should have been. We sat and listened to account after account of what makes no human sense.

“The story of the storm’s fury was told over and over, by everyone we spoke to.”
“The front door and windows went, the roof went and then all of the walls went. Our entire house was gone from around us and we ran with the children!” There was no limit to the variations of this story being told to anyone who would listen.

Thank you for praying!
Thank you for dropping to your knees a few days back and pleading for God to protect! Thank you for believing that prayers actually do make a difference and have the potential of moving nothing less than the hands of God! There’s an island nation in the South Pacific called Vanuatu, full of precious people who have asked that we communicate back to you… thank you so very much for praying! – Harmon Schmelzenbach
Specific Prayer Requests

SALVATION CAMP A SUCCESS IN MYANMAR- PRAISE REPORT!
Myanmar, Southeast Asia: One of the areas in Myanmar is rejoicing, as seven new souls have accepted Jesus Christ during the Salvation Camp held in the second week of March.
The Salvation Camp was a joint effort of four churches in the area, with four local team members leading the event. The camp was also made possible through prayer and financial support of certain zone churches and their members.
The highlight of the camp was the baptism of seven individuals, the fruits of evangelism and outreach of the camp leaders.
Let us continue to pray for the newly baptized souls, that they will grow into mature disciples so that they can also make disciples.
We would also like to thank the churches and local team members involved for making the Salvation Camp a success. We acknowledge their genuine sacrifice and unwavering faith in God. May they never grow tired of responding to the call to make Christlike disciples.[Submitted: Team Member from Myanmar.]

Dr. Joseph Dudley (JD) Powers, M.D. 1927-2015
Bethany, Oklahoma, USA: Joseph Dudley Powers, M.D., 87, longtime resident of Bethany, Oklahoma, died Sunday morning, March 22, 2015, in Oklahoma City. He was born April 13, 1927, in Upland, California to Ruby Mae (King) and Rev. Hardy C. Powers.
He attended high school at Olivet Academy from 1943-1945. When he turned 18 he joined the United States Navy where he served from April 1945 through June 1946. Due to his father’s heavy travel schedule in his position as General Superintendent in the Church of the Nazarene, Dudley moved back to Dallas to help his mother with the care of his younger twin sisters.
Powers completed his B.S. degree at Southern Methodist University in 1951. Smitten by an Olivet student from Ohio, he made 11 round trips from Dallas to Kankakee, Illinois on two lane highways to court her. He will also serve as the liaison between the groups mentioned above and the field, communicating with districts and local churches.

PRAISE FOR ANSWERED PRAYER – FROM A FAMILY BEYOND BORDERS AND BOUNDARIES.
Asia-Pacific Region: We have many team members on our field literally serving Beyond Borders and Boundaries, where sharing of the Gospel can be a very sensitive issue.
One of our families shared the following Praise Report!
Today I just have to give a shout out to our Heavenly Father for His healing work in our lives! There has been focused prayer going on among our partners here for our family’s health and improvement.
– Jim* finally received the test results, identifying the problems in his back. The treatment prescribed involved exercises and swimming. Unfortunately, one of the the only ways to have access to a swimming pool is through a very expensive membership. The Lord answered and nearly as soon as the treatment was prescribed, access to a pool was made available at no charge. The exercises are already helping to strengthen his weak back.
– Sandy* has struggled for more than three years with a very specific medical condition that has disrupted her sleep nearly every night. Through prayer and natural remedies, the situation is improving! This may not seem like a big deal, but for someone who hasn’t slept well in 3 years, it is a huge deal to us! It is wonderful to wake up feeling refreshed and not exhausted!
– God is truly working in the life of our daughter from school grades to friendship difficulties.
Praise to Him from whom all blessings flow! He truly wants us to operate in freedom and His best for us!
Please continue to remember your team members who are serving beyond borders and barriers. God knows each one by name, and cares deeply for them. * Names have been changed

Myanmar, Southeast Asia Field: This last January, at the age of 70, Rev. Dr. Robin Seia retired after serving for 30 years as the District Superintendent for the Church of the Nazarene in Myanmar. His story is one of faith, commitment, and dedication to his Lord!

Dr. Robin Seia
Born in Kalaymyo in 1944 to a Buddhist family, Robin accepted Christ as his personal Savior at the age of 17. While this created quite a stir, it would eventually lead to his mother accepting Christ, followed by his entire family.
In 1964, at the age of 20, Robin travelled to Chennai (Madras), India, to pursue further Christian education and it was while there that he read the book, “Why I am a Nazarene.” Robin never forgot this introduction to the holiness message of the church.
Returning to Myanmar in 1969, Robin worked for the Evangelical fellowship of Burma until 1981, when following the recommendation of Dr. John Stott from London, Robin left Myanmar and headed to Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, California, where he studied until 1984.
“I will never forget Pasadena First Church of the Nazarene,” shared Dr. Seia. “The first Sunday that I walked in the door, they welcomed me in an incredible way. There was a man there by the name of Dr. Herald King. Here I was, a foreign student, a stranger, but Dr. King picked me up every Sunday, he treated me like a son.”

In 1984, Robin returned to Myanmar and in cooperation with Dr. Donald Owens, who was serving as the Asia-Pacific Regional Director, the Church of the Nazarene was officially registered.
Today in Myanmar, after 30 years of work, Dr. Seia leaves a legacy of 22 established churches, more than 2,000 members, and a Bible College which graduates 5 or 6 students every year.

Outdoor screening of JESUS Film to adults.
In the scheduled conference, Jong-Il plans to show the JESUS Film to the youth and children, conduct Bible studies for adults, and deploy a special tool to help with learning the Word of God.
Since this is a community with a strong oral focus, one of the strategies for delivering the Gospel message will be the use of the Papyrus Audio Book Player. We are praising God for partners in ministry who answered the call last month to purchase these units. This is just one area where they will be put to use.
