The relationship people have with authority is often linked to the relationship they had as children with their parents. When this was difficult the children may be left with a lasting anger and suspicion of all authority. They will rebel against a leader. The relationship is a complicated one and it is hard to talk together with simplicity and truth because everything is colored by childish fears and attitudes.[Jean Vanier, Community and Growth, page 235]
