Pastor Jason Gant for Friday, September 18, 2015 Weekly eNote
Resurrection West,
What an amazing week of mission and ministry. Celebrate with me that we have 40 8th-12th grade students signed up to take the journey of confirmation over the next 10 weeks. How cool is that! Programs were kicking off all over the campus each night this week with every single square foot being used for care night, building better moms, small groups, committee meetings, youth groups, Thursday live, men’s and women’s groups, and the revival study - not to mention the backpacks being filled at our missions center on college blvd. – even the outside areas were full as Upward soccer teams practiced and shared in their devotional times on the field! Holy Spirit life happening all around!
This Sunday we hope to welcome many of you at “coffee with the pastors”, 2:30-4:30pm. This is our gathering where you find out what it means to become a member here at Resurrection West. Pastor Chris and I will be sharing our testimonies with pastor Adam sharing on video what United Methodism is all about. We also share the history of Resurrection and what’s expected of membership. We will have coffee and sweets and at the end, you can choose to make us your church family. This is always an exciting afternoon as we welcome new members! Childcare is available! Register now at rezwest.org/coffee
Pastor Adam continues the “searching for truth” series with maybe the most important message of the series – a message on the forgiveness of sin. Forgiving others can be so difficult and receiving forgiveness can be even more difficult. Invite a friend or family member to hear this important message of the power of forgiveness! Don’t forget we have three services at 9am, 10:45am, and 5pm, with lots of room at the 5pm. We have full-length KiDS COR Sunday School and nursery at all three services and Student Sunday School at 10:45am and 5pm.
We are in the midst of preparation for our Fall Festival coming on October 10th, 5-7pm. The last two years we’ve welcomed well over 1200 to celebrate with us through the corn maze, hayrack ride, kids games, food, and so much more, and we will have our HUGE fireworks show at the end of the evening! Your fall fest team has been hard at work preparing and we will need dozens of volunteers to lead the game stations, and more. There will be a table out this Sunday so you can stop by and check out the opportunities to serve. This is our biggest outreach day of the year after Candlelight Christmas Eve and Easter weekend, so please give an hour or more of your time to serve as we seek to change lives and transform our community here in western Johnson county!
The Annual Neighborhood Food Drive kicks off this Sunday. Recent statistics show that one out of seven people
in the greater Kansas City area will seek help for food
insecurity this year. Donate nonperishable food
items and encourage your neighbors and coworkers
to help fight hunger in Kansas City. Pick up a “sack hunger” bag this Sunday (which contains everything you will need to participate). Donations accepted at Resurrection West through October 11. For more information, contact Debbie.Dietz@cor.org.
Committee Nominations Underway – The following committees are seeking candidates to serve beginning in 2016: Finance, Trustees, Staff Parish Relations, Foundation, Nominations, and Lay Delegates to Annual Conference. You can refer someone you know, or indicate your interest in serving by completing and Online Interest Form by Sunday, Oct. 18th at cor.org/committees.
Register now for the Resurrection Foundation Information Luncheon - Sunday, Sept. 27th, 12:30-2pm in the lower level Theater Room. Help ensure the future ministry of the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection through a planned gift to the Foundation. Information shared at this luncheon will help you determine which type of gift is the best fit for your charitable giving goals and financial objectives. Register for this event at rezwest.org/foundationluncheon.
10th Annual Sacred Steps 5K Run/Walk – Saturday, Sept. 26 at the Leawood campus. All proceeds will go towards
education and health in the DR Congo. Sign up at cor.org/sacredsteps.

Register your 3rd grader to receive their Bible in worship on October 18th - The presentation ceremony will take place during all 3 worship services. You may register your child to attend the service of your choice. All 3rd grade participants should check-in to their regular KiDS COR classroom 15 minutes before service. At the appropriate time, students will enter the worship service together for the ceremony, receive their Bibles along with a blessing, then return to KiDS COR to be picked up by families at the end of service. register your child at rezwest.org/3rdgradebibles
Resurrection 25th Anniversary T-shirts - The Church of the Resurrection turns 25 years old this October! This is your last chance to order a special t-shirt commemorating the anniversary. Shirts are $5 each and come in men’s and women’s cuts and children’s sizes in a variety of colors! Stop by the table in the entry to place your order, or go to thewell.cor.org/shirts for online orders.
Upward Sports is underway…and it’s time to register for Basketball: Basketball registration is open for boys and girls age 5 through 6th grade for Winter 2016. The goal of this Christian-based sports program is to bring children and adults to know, love and follow Jesus through sports activities. Register at rezwest.org/westsports. Contact David.Robertson@cor.org for more information.
Finally, thank you to the many of you who made my birthday so special! It was a wonderful day spent teaching at the Monday morning women's Bible Study (thank you again for the cake ladies) and again as we kicked off the Revival study (and thank you for the cake Barbie) later that night with over 170 in attendance! It is such a joy to serve and grow beside you here at Resurrection West - and enjoy so much cake! Here are a couple of pics from Monday night (including "fandant" John Wesley as the topper on the amazing cake Barbie Nelson made for all of us). Little John Wesley even made it all the way to our church council meeting the next night! Pastor Adam got a big kick out of little John.
Looking forward to worshiping with you Sunday,
Pastor Jason
