Saint Paul School of Theology for Tuesday, September 15, 2015 - Saint Paul eUpdate: Back in Full Swing

Saint Paul School of Theology for Tuesday, September 15, 2015 - Saint Paul eUpdate: Back in Full Swing

President's eUpdate
Tuesday, September 15, 2015
Dear Saint Paul community,
The 2015 Fall semester is in full swing. Opening convocations have been completed. It was a joy to work with the worship coordinators Wanda Jackson

(Resurrection campus) and Melissa Pearce (OCU campus). They shaped the liturgy to go with the Matthew 25:31-46 text and sermon title Gathering at the Table of Just Hospitality. At each celebration of the sacrament of Holy Communion we used the communion set the Kwanglim Methodist Church in Seoul, Korea

presented to Saint Paul when Rev. Dr. Kim Sung-Ok presented it to the seminary at Dr. Young-Ho Chun's retirement celebration. We had honored guests at both convocations and a great lunch allowed us to visit long after the desserts had been consumed. I always enjoy seeing Saint Paul alums who make Opening Convocation a priority.
Holy Conversations resume this week. I'll be at Kansas Wesleyan University on

Wednesday at 1:30pm in the Backstrom Conference Room. Even if you haven't remembered to register, please come and enjoy a couple of hours of time with alums and friends of Saint Paul and KWU. I hope you saw the
announcement about Saint Paul and KWU signing an agreement for a 3+3 academic program.
KWU President Matt Thompson initiated the conversation with Saint Paul and we have worked together to bring this from idea to reality. I also appreciate the new KWU Coyote sweatshirt I have to wear to a football game! I am aware there are a number of KWU/Saint Paul alums. One of those is the Rev. Dr. Rebecca Chopp whose inauguration as the
Chancellor of the University of Denver occurs this week. Congratulations to Chancellor Chopp!
The Strategic Planning Team continues its work of research, study, dialogue, and

discernment. Nancy Brown has managed to keep all of us focused on the future shape and direction of Saint Paul. I have immense respect for every member of the team because they have devoted time, energy and their own resources to this endeavor. The timeline for the final report is early 2016. I look forward to writing about it right here. Continue to pray for this team and their work.
Ken Hayden (Class of 1979 ), retired elder in the Illinois Great Rivers Conference where he served as a chaplain and ACPE CPE supervisor, sent me a note about the recently published book I mentioned last month.
Coming Full Circle: Constructing Native Christian Theology, edited by Steven Charleston and Elaine A. Robinson.
"I am grateful for Saint Paul's impact on my life and ministry. The journey to have American Indian Christian authors recognized has been a trail of tears and hope. This book should be required reading as it covers a number of theological, spiritual and cultural issues."

I am grateful for Ken's ministry and witness. All revenues from the book sales are designated for Native ministries at Saint Paul: OCU campus.
I hope to see you at a Holy Conversation. Please check the website for upcoming lectures.
On the journey with you,

Rev. H. Sharon Howell, President
