Weekly eNote from Pastor Scott Chrostek for Friday, July 1, 2016 from The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Downtown in Kansas City, Missouri, United States
Greetings RezDowntowners,
It is great to write you this Friday morning, on the first day of July! I hope this message finds you doing well at the beginning of a holiday weekend. I spent the last few days on a Senior Staff Retreat and had a chance to do some dreaming about the future and what God might be calling us to do over the coming years to continue living into our vision of changing lives, renewing churches and transforming communities. It was so meaningful to be able to carve out some time for some intentional planning and dreaming around what God is calling us to do.
While I was away doing that, I received word that our first class on Theology, Literature & Race (led by Matt Bisel and the Rev. Dr. Jeff Williams) kicked off and was absolutely amazing. We had over 65 people show up on a Thursday night to explore issues of race and faith through the reading of selected essays, shared dialogue and, most importantly, grace. This class is a great way to grow in the faith, but it’s also a great opportunity to build relationships with Centennial UMC and I can’t wait to see where it leads us into the future! I’m excited about what God is doing through this important discussion.
This weekend is July 4th weekend, which means we’ll be hosting a Family Worship Weekend. We'll have childcare available for children under four, but otherwise the whole family is welcome and invited to join us in some pretty special worship! For the second week in a row, children will be leading us through worship and you know that will be a ton of fun! I want to invite you to join us this weekend and bring the whole family. Pastor Anne is going to be preaching a powerful message on God's abundance and together with the kids we'll have a great holiday weekend full of family fun in worship! You won’t want to miss it!
