Thoughts From Our Pastors
Hey this is Pastor Jeremy hope you had a wonderful week. Today we're going to be keep talking about treasures. If you missed out last sermon feel free to check it out here. Today we are going to go a little different way and talk about the treasure of the cross and its immense value in comparison to all else.
Paul talks about this in Philippians 3:8-11 “Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith— 10 that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11 that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead.”

If we treasure in the things of life that go up and down, they are going to affect your mood. But if we focus on the Lord, we have a "constant" in Jesus. Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He is always on His throne. Knowing that you have Him as your Savior—that you have an intimacy with Him—we cannot help but think, That's my one constant in life. Paul says earlier in verse one that we should rejoice in that.
When I reflect on this, I think this is an important passage that we all can learn from. For the people who lived in Philippi, the issue was that they were holding to their Jewish heritage. It was a little bit too important to them. I wonder for us what is it sitting on the mantel piece of our heart? What is it that has control over our thoughts and emotions? What trophies or treasures do we have that are taking up too much room? There are just a few questions for us to think about.
To help us focus on the cross here is a beautiful song.
