Deaf Devo - The Deaf Missions in council Bluffs, Iowa, United States for Thursday, 29 June 2017 "Special Relationship" Bible Reading: Exodus 20:1-6
Exodus 20:1 Then God said all these words: א 2 “I am Adonai your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the abode of slavery. ב 3 “You are to have no other gods before me. 4 You are not to make for yourselves a carved image or any kind of representation of anything in heaven above, on the earth beneath or in the water below the shoreline. 5 You are not to bow down to them or serve them; for I, Adonai your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sins of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, 6 but displaying grace to the thousandth generation of those who love me and obey my mitzvot. -------
When my husband and I got married, our lives changed. We promised to love each other until we die. We are devoted to each other and will not allow anything to separate us.
When people become Christians, they develop a very important relationship with God. Just like marriage, our relationship with God is special. We promise to not worship another god, idol, person or possession. Our lives become focused on our one true God.
In our Bible Reading, God gave the Israelites some commands to obey. God told them that they should only worship and serve Him. That command is for Christians today, too. The world has many things that we can love and worship and serve. But we need to stay devoted to God. We should not allow people and possessions to keep us from serving God.
Keep your relationship with God special. Love and serve only Him.
"Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. This is the first and most important commandment."
[Matthew 22:37-38]
PRAYER: God, I want to love and serve You with my whole life. In Jesus' name. Amen.
