"Happy Times (6)" for Tuesday. 6 June 2017 - Bible Reading: Luke 15:8-10

"Happy Times (6)" for Tuesday. 6 June 2017 - Bible Reading: Luke 15:8-10
Luke 15:“Another example: what woman, if she has ten drachmas and loses one of these valuable coins, won’t light a lamp, sweep the house and search all over until she finds it? And when she does find it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Come, celebrate with me, because I have found the drachma I lost.’ 10 In the same way, I tell you, there is joy among God’s angels when one sinner repents.”
-------
Luke, chapter 15, tells us about lost things. In our Bible verses for today, we read a story about a woman who had ten coins. Then she lost one coin.
We don't know what kind of coins these were and if they were valuable. But they must have been valuable to this woman. She worked hard to clean her house and find the lost coin. And then she called her friends and neighbors. She told them (verse 9b), "Be happy with me because I have found the coin that I lost!"
It is wonderful that this woman found her lost coin. But Jesus tells us what is even more wonderful. In verse 10, He said, "In the same way, it's a happy time for the angels of God when one sinner decides to change."
People who do not follow Jesus are lost. They need to learn about Jesus and obey Him. And we should be like the angels. We should be happy when someone decides to follow Jesus.
"...I tell you, heaven is a happy place when one sinner decides to change. There is more joy for that one sinner than for 99 good people who don't need to change." [Luke 15:7]
PRAYER: Father, thank You for Your wonderful gift of salvation through Jesus. In His name. Amen.

"Happy Times (5)" for Monday, 5 June 2017 - Deaf Devo - The Deaf Mission in Council Bluffs, Iowa, United States - Bible Reading: Matthew 2:9-12
Matthew 2:After they had listened to the king, they went away; and the star which they had seen in the east went in front of them until it came and stopped over the place where the child was. 10 When they saw the star, they were overjoyed. 11 Upon entering the house, they saw the child with his mother Miryam; and they prostrated themselves and worshipped him. Then they opened their bags and presented him gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. 12 But they had been warned in a dream not to return to Herod, so they took another route back to their own country.
-------
After Jesus was born, some wise men came from the east to Jerusalem. These wise men knew that the king of the Jews had been born. They followed a special star that appeared in the sky.
The wise men stopped first in Jerusalem. But King Herod did not know about a new king that had been born. The Jewish leaders said that the king of the Jews was to be born in Bethlehem. So the wise men followed the star to Bethlehem. "The star went before them until it stopped above the place where the child was. They were very happy and excited to see the star" (verses 9b-10).
The wise men were happy to follow the star. Why? So they could worship Jesus. We should always be happy and look forward to times when we can worship Jesus. We can worship Him any time and in any place.
Worship Jesus and thank God for the wonderful gift of His Son!
"The wise men came to the house where the child was with his mother Mary. They bowed down and worshiped him." [Matthew 2:11a]
PRAYER: Dear God, I am so happy that You sent Your Son, Jesus, to earth to die for me. In His name. Amen.

"Happy Times (4)" for Sunday, 4 June 2017 - Deaf Devo - The Deaf Mission in Council Bluffs, Iowa, United States - Bible Reading: Luke 1:46-49
Luke 1:46 Then Miryam said,
“My soul magnifies Adonai;
47     and my spirit rejoices in God, my Savior,
48 who has taken notice of his servant-girl
    in her humble position.[Luke 1:48 1 Samuel 1:11; 2:1]
For — imagine it! — from now on, all generations will call me blessed!
49     “The Mighty One has done great things for me!
Indeed, his name is holy;
-------
God sent His angel, Gabriel, to visit a Jewish woman from Nazareth. Her name was Mary. Gabriel told Mary she would become pregnant and give birth to God's Son.
I imagine Mary was very shocked to receive that news. She could have been upset and complained about all the problems she might face in the future. But instead, Mary was happy! Mary said (verses 46b-47a), "I praise the Lord with all my heart. I am very happy because God is my Savior."
Many people look at the opportunities God gives them and complain about being uncomfortable or facing new situations. But Mary was thankful that God had chosen her to be the mother of His Son. She thought that God was blessing her, not giving her a problem.
Be happy today when God gives you blessings and new ways to serve Him!
"Yes, the Powerful One has done great things for me. His name is
very holy. He always gives mercy to those who worship him."
[Luke 1:49-50]
PRAYER: Dear Father, thank You for blessing me with new ways to serve You. In Jesus' name. Amen.

"Happy Times (3)" for Saturday, 3 June 2017 "Deaf Devo" The Deaf Missions in Council Bluffs, Iowa, United States - Bible Reading: Ecclesiastes 6:7-9
Ecclesiastes 6:The purpose of all toil is to fill the mouth, yet the appetite is never satisfied.
What advantage has the wise over the fool,
or the person with experience, if he is poor?
Better what the eyes can see
than meandering desire.
Yet this too is pointless
and feeding on wind.
-------
Most people believe that the book of Ecclesiastes was written by King Solomon. He was a very wealthy man who had everything he could want. In the book of Ecclesiastes, Solomon talks about his search for what is really important in life.
Many people today are like Solomon. They are searching for things that make them happy. But often they do not search in the right places. They want to find happiness through drugs, alcohol, wealth or high-paying jobs. True happiness can only be found through following God and His Word. And Solomon adds in our verses for today that "it is better to be happy with what you have than to always want more and more" (verse 9a).
We can find happiness if we learn to be content with what we have. We should not always be trying to find happiness through more money and things. Thank God for what He has given you and ask Him to help you be satisfied.
"I have learned to be satisfied
with what I have and with
whatever happens."
[Philippians 4:11b]
PRAYER: Dear Lord, I want to find true happiness through You. Thank You for providing for me every day. In Jesus' name. Amen.
