MUSIC NOTES
This month in worship… On June 10 & 11, we celebrate Hope UMC’s 40 years in worship with a special video showing a timeline of good times, milestones, and our mission statement at work. On June 17 & 18, we will hear from our high school seniors on how our church has helped shape their life and character. Bill Mingst will debut a new Lincoln Brewster song called, “Real Life,” on the 17th. High school sophomore, Noah Frost, and his dad, Jim, will do a trombone duet on the 18th for our offertory time. Then on June 24 & 25 we get to celebrate VBS week! For all 3 services, the Axios Youth Choir will sing, “Lean On Me” during offertory time, and they will lead all the music in a VBS fun style of worship! Bring your whole family to church and celebrate with us!
A BIG THANK YOU TO OUR CCS PARTICIPANTS…. Thank you to all who participated in our CCS weekend! I want to thank the choir, the bakers, the ushers, the A/V operators, the instrumentalists, the planners, the reception helpers, the greeters, the decorators…. Thank you to everyone! What a great team we all made! And thank you to the congregation and audience who came to worship and to the concert… We had 32 directors, 4 churches, 12 instrumentalists, 2 accompanists, 50 singers, 4 different receptions, and best of all, we had FUN! Thank you, dear Lord, for Your ministry, Your direction, and for the opportunity to serve and glorify You!
A BIG THANK YOU TO OUR CHOIRS… Thank you to our 9:00 New Wine Ensemble, our 10:45 Voices of Hope choir, our Hope Ringers’ bell choir, our Joyful Noise Children’s Choir, and our Axios Youth choir for a wonderful year of music! You enrich our worship services with God’s Word, and you help scripture come to life in a very deep and meaningful way. You are loved and appreciated… and now you deserve some time off! You all will continue through June, then we will see everyone back in worship and rehearsals in September! Thank you also to the SNA band for continuing your music all year round! What a dedicated, hard-working, loving group of volunteer musicians we have in our Saturday night service and in our entire music ministry…. Thank you all so much!
SAVE THE DATES...
1. Bluegrass & BBQ * Saturday, Aug 19 * 6pm
We have a new bluegrass band this year! The Drought Tolerant Bluegrass Band is made up of 4 professional bluegrass players, who have been playing for up to 40 years! All of them play in multiple bluegrass bands, and have played all over Southern California. Other bluegrass groups they’ve been a part of include: The Taildraggers, Gone Tomorrow, MohaviSoul, Late for Supper, and a coastal group called The Unstrung Heroes. Given Harrison is the founder of Drought Tolerant, and has been playing since 1974. We are very excited to have them! There’s all the brisket and barbecued chicken you can imagine, a potluck extravaganza, desserts, and amazing pies to raffle off throughout the evening. A free-will offering is highly encouraged so that we can continue this annual church-wide event. Bring your family, friends, loved ones, and appetite. We will be toe-tapping together with style!
The musicians for the event will be Given Harrison on upright bass, Michael Williams playing flat pick guitar, Steve Dame on 5-string banjo, and Dan Sankey on fiddle and mandolin. Gear up your bluegrass and mark those calendars!
