"How to Love God..".for Monday, 12 June 2017 - Deaf Devo - The Deaf Mission in Council Bluffs, Iowa, United States - Bible Reading: Luke 10:25-28
Luke 10:25 An expert in Torah stood up to try and trap him by asking, “Rabbi, what should I do to obtain eternal life?” 26 But Yeshua said to him, “What is written in the Torah? How do you read it?” 27 He answered, “You are to love Adonai your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength and with all your understanding; and your neighbor as yourself.”[Luke 10:27 ] 28 “That’s the right answer,” Yeshua said. “Do this, and you will have life.”
Our Bible Reading tells us that an expert in the Jewish law came to Jesus. This man asked Jesus which of God's laws was most important. Jesus' answer in verse 27 was this: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind. When Jesus said this, He was quoting from Deuteronomy 6:5.
What does it mean to love God with all your heart, soul, strength and mind? It means we must love God with everything we are: our emotions, thoughts, spirit and physical body. These four things are what it is to be human. They are four separate parts that make us what we are - God's special creation. And God wants us to give ourselves to Him completely!
In the next four devotions, we will learn about these four parts. And we will talk about how we can love and serve God completely.
"But remember - continue to obey the law that the Lord's servant Moses gave you. You must love the Lord your God and obey his commands. You must continue to follow him and serve him the very best that you can." [Joshua 22:5]
PRAYER: Dear God, I want to love You with my heart, my soul, my strength and my mind. In Jesus' name. Amen.
