Pastor Penny Ellwood's eNote for Friday, 2 June 2017 - The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Blue Springs, Blue Springs, Missouri, United States
Friday, June 2, 2017

Hello Resurrection Blue Springs,

It looks like we have a beautiful weekend ahead of us, though I can’t believe it’s Friday again already.  Despite the swimsuit shot Bill managed to slip into our sermon last week, it was a joy for he and I to preach the conclusion of our Birds and the Bees series together.  We didn’t realize what a blessing it would be to spend the time in reflection on our 35 years together.  It was also a confirmation of how important our involvement in the church has been to our growth and the development of our family as a whole.   For this reason, I’m excited about all the opportunities we’re offering for our families and friends this summer.  If you missed last week’s message you can click here or go to our Facebook page to view it.

I want to encourage you to take a look at the upcoming activities below and to get the dates on your calendars now.  Next Wednesday evening begins the first of our activities for children with Popsicles in the Park.  Parents can load up the kids and join other families at 6:30 pm for a play date at Pink Hill Park at 2715 NW Park Drive in Blue Springs.  Don’t forget to take your Resurrection sunglasses and post some pics of the kids wearing them (You can pick up a pair on Sunday if you didn’t get yours last week).  You might want to go ahead and sign-up for the first of our two mini-camps on The Secret Life of Jesus right now too.

For those who want to acknowledge the way God is working in your life or feel the desire to recommitment yourself to God or give affirmation to what God is nudging you toward, we offer you the chance to be baptized or to reaffirm your baptism vows at our Annual Special Baptism Service on June 11.   This is open to all ages.  We’ll follow the outdoor baptism service with a church potluck picnic to celebrate.  A short baptism meeting following the 10:45 am worship on June 11th is required for those who have not been baptized.

Sunday we kick off a new sermon series,Upside Down.  I am excited to preach this series on the stories Jesus told and explore how these and other stories inspire world-changing action in this new seriesThis weekend is also Pentecost Sunday when we remember the biblical story in Acts of how the Holy Spirit descended upon the disciples inspiring them to share the story of Jesus with such passion that the church was birthed.   Here's a video promo for you to share as a way of inviting people to join us on this journey!

Our Summer Volleyball at Wilbur Young park is starting back up
