HOW TO RESURRECT A BOOK. Who's Who & Where's Where in the Bible for Kids is out of print. That's going to change. The question is: What form should the body of a resurrected book take?
A BOOK OF MINE WENT OUT OF PRINT.
Fortunately, that hasn’t happened to me very often in my writing career.
The rights have reverted back to me, and I’m brainstorming about how to resurrect it, now that we writers aren’t nearly as dependent on publishers as we used to be.
Hybrid authors, as they are sometimes called, work on both sides of the fence: with publishers and without—but mostly with publishers. It’s a bit like my hybrid Prius, that runs with gas and without—but mostly with gas.
This resurrected book will be without publishers. It’s an experiment I’m working on.
The question is what this book’s resurrected body is going to look like.
- Will it be something we can touch, smell, and put in our mouth—like a traditional book or maybe a print-on-demand book, both of which are made from a dead tree or recycled junk mail envelopes?
- Will it be something that lives in the digitized spirit world—like an app, an ebook, or a downloadable PDF?
- Will it be a YouTube video—with me as Mr. Rogers reading the book for kids in My Holy Neighborhood?
Can you spare a few…?
Those of you who have kids or grandkids ages 8-12, yet you miraculously have a few minutes to spare, could you spare me a few minutes?
If your kids or grandkids would actually use a resource like this—or if you were going to study it with them—in what form do you think it would get the most use?
- Printed book
- Ebook
- Phone app
- YouTube video, as a series with one video per topic
- Downloadable PDF
I’m listening as I continue brainstorming with some of my production partners.
Blog subscribers who win books this week
I give away free books every week to randomly selected Stateside subscribers to my free blog or my quarterly newsletter.
Note to the two winners: send me an email and I’ll give you the full list of books from which you can choose.
The deal’s good for a month, or for as long as I have giveaway books available.
