issue coverJohn 14:15 “If you love me, you will keep my commands; 16 and I will ask the Father, and he will give you another comforting Counselor like me, the Spirit of Truth, to be with you forever. 17 The world cannot receive him, because it neither sees nor knows him. You know him, because he is staying with you and will be united with you. 18 I will not leave you orphans — I am coming to you. 19 In just a little while, the world will no longer see me; but you will see me. Because I live, you too will live. 20 When that day comes, you will know that I am united with my Father, and you with me, and I with you.

Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” [John 14:27 (NIV)]
When my grandparents retired and decided to move into a smaller home, they asked extended family members to come and choose some special mementos from the items that they couldn’t take with them. One of the items I chose was a colorful candy dish. The curved bowl had no great monetary value, but it holds special memories for me. Whenever we came to visit, the dish was always filled with small candies and each grandchild was invited to take a small handful. That was Grandma’s way of letting us know we were special and welcome in her home. When I look at that candy dish, I am reminded of her love for me.
God also considers each of us special and has an abundance of gifts and blessings to give us. God’s blessings come to us in many different ways if we are open to receiving them. They come as the gift of a friend who lends a listening ear, the beauty of a new flower in bloom, or the many second chances God offers. God is a perfect parent who showers us with love. God is always ready to hear from us and forgive us when we come with an open heart.
