Resurrection Blue Springs,
Hello on this beautiful Friday morning! The rain has brought in some wonderful cooler weather, which is going to be perfect for all the activities we have planned this weekend.
Tonight our 2nd Children’s Mini Camp kicks off. The kids will be learning all about the creative power of God and exploring their own God given creative abilities as they gather for S.T.E.A.M. (science, technology, electronics, architecture and math) camp tonight and tomorrow morning. They have all kinds of fun activities planned from making robots to a visit from a “Mad” scientist and the Zoo mobile. If you didn’t get signed up, you can contact Diane Enlow to see if there’s still room available. We have a full house for our Pastor’s Potluck gathering tonight too and will be extending these gatherings on into the fall. They have been great opportunities for us to get to know each other better.
Then tomorrow morning is our monthly Faithwork day, where we head out into the community to serve. We have two serving opportunities. One group is headed to complete the final work day on the remodel of a Heritage Habitat for Humanity House. This group will meet at the church at 7:30am or at the work house at 7:45am (1129 S Pope, Independence, MO). If you’d like to join them, make sure to register here. The second group will meet at the church at 8:30am and then carpool/caravan to our furnishings ministry, My Father’s House. They’ll be working from 9am to noon sorting and arranging household donations. Lunch will be provided for both groups.
Sunday we'll be starting a new two week series “Rebels and Roses” where we’ll be looking for the gospel themes in two summer blockbusters. This week we explore Star Wars Rogue One. In this prequel to the original Star Wars, a key event brings together ordinary people who choose to do extraordinary things, and in doing so, become part of something greater than themselves. Does the theme sound familiar? Come hear the sermon and then join all our campuses in Leawood on the lawn to watch the movie on a large LED screen Sunday evening at 7:15 pm. There’ll be hotdogs and hamburgers for purchase and free popcorn. This is a great chance to invite a friend for worship.
I have one more bit of news that I am very excited to share. Caleb Longest has joined our staff team as the new Director of Student Ministries. He’s excited about the position and already has some great plans in the works for our youth. Caleb works as a Special Education Teacher and In-District Autism Consultant at Blue Springs South HS where he teaches Algebra and the fundamentals of physics and chemistry. He is married to Sarah and they have two children, Margeaux (8) and Eisley (3). We’ll introduce Caleb in worship this Sunday.
Be sure to check out the other upcoming opportunities to serve, grow and connect with our community below. . . . July MiniCamp Friday, July 14 6-8 | Saturday, July 15 9am-12pm Keep their minds active this summer at our S.T.E.A.M. MiniCamp.
