The God Pause Daily Devotional of The Luther Seminary in Saint Paul, Minnesota, United States for Saturday, 22 July 2017 - The text for today's hymn cannot be published due to copyright limitations. We apologize for the inconvenience.
This hymn oozes with hope, hope that affirms the interconnectedness of all elements of God's beloved creation including the trees, the dry lands, the hills, the mountains--even us! At the same time the hymn text offers hope; it does not shy away from admitting present pain in terms of injustice, hunger or abandonment. It is precisely those places in which the world is weary that hold potential for light to dawn, for love to grow and for hope to bloom.
The poetic refrain is worth a closer look. An adaptation of Isaiah 55:12, these lines especially highlight the interconnectedness between creation's shalom and our peace. No longer is creation groaning in labor pains (Romans 8:22). Behold: a new creation, a new heaven, a new earth! Sing it into being.
Thy kingdom come, O God, so that the entirety of your beloved creation might in wonder echo shalom. Amen.
