Weekly eNote from Pastor Scott Chrostek for Friday, July 21, 2017 of The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Downtown in Kansas City, Missouri, United States
Hi RezDowntowners,
Good morning and happy Friday to you on this hot summer day! I hope you are staying cool today and have managed to do so for most of this week. After last weekend's activities, from the Baptismal Celebration with the Healing House (86 adult baptisms), to our Vacation Bible Camp with ReStart, Inc. and a wonderful Faithwork Saturday, I have been so thankful for the power of God's Spirit moving throughout our community. This weekend we continue our momentum by getting out into the community in a variety of ways. On Saturday both the RezDads group and our 40 and UP group are meeting. The RezDads are heading out to Dagg Park's splash park in North Kansas City at 9 am, while the 40 and UPs are hosting a group gathering after Saturday night worship at Thou Mayest Coffee Roasters! If you are looking at getting connected with some other RezDowntowners, please consider joining us for one of these outings!
This weekend we continue our sermon series on the Gospel in Film by taking a look at the movie The Beauty and the Beast. We will also start our annual School Supplies Drive for the students at our partner school, Wendell Phillips @ Attucks Elementary. This is one of the most important things we do to help the 370 students we care for start the school year out in the best way! Join us this weekend to make that possible!
Lastly, we have a few spots remaining for the Holy Land Trip I will guide this November. If you are thinking that a trip to Israel is something God is calling you to do, please see below as to how you might sign up or learn more about this life-changing trip!
In the meantime, you'll find a variety of ways below to get connected over the next several weeks. Be sure to take a look...
RezDads – Tomorrow is the 4th Saturday of the month – meet us in North Kansas City at Dagg Park’s splash park area, at 9 am. Bring your little guys and gals, and don’t forget your swim suits! 40 and UP Gathering – Please join our 40 and Up group after the 5:10 pm service tomorrow, as they walk over to Thou Mayest Coffee Roasters (419 E. 18th St., Kansas City, MO). From 6:30–7:30 pm, this new fellowship group will enjoy conversation, coffee and possibly board games. Stay for a few minutes or the full hour. Look for a more formal kick-off event this fall. Back to School Supply Drive – Wendell Phillips at Attucks Elementary’s 370 students will return to the classroom on August 14! Contact Pastor Patrick or Ginna Beckett at rezdtserve@cor.org with inquiries about more ways to get involved.
Last Chance to Register for the Holy Land Trip with Pastor Scott! Take the spiritual journey of a lifetime November 8-17 and see the places where Jesus taught his parables.
