Saint Paul Academy is the lifelong learning center of Saint Paul School of Theology. It offers non-degree classes and events for clergy and laity who would like to deepen their faith, better understand theology, and grow in ministry and leadership skills.
These opportunities for continuing education and personal enrichment allow participants to engage at their own pace, at their own level, and are taught by a highly qualified
and ecumenical faculty.

The Bible and Art: Hebrew Bible Focus
William K. McElvaney Professor of Preaching,
and Donna Houtteman, Docent
Saturday, November 9, 2013
Two sessions, 10:00 a.m.-12:00 noon
OR 1:00-3:00 p.m.
Description
A stroll through most any world-class museum always reveals a strong presence of the Bible's influence on various pieces. Knowing the biblical stories behind various sculptures and paintings can enrich our experience of the art, but the opposite can also be true. In this interactive session we will tour the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art to see what creative understandings might emerge. This Old Testament session is not a repeat of the previous year's session, which focused on New Testament art, so those who attended last year will be able to explore different pieces at the museum.
Participants should choose between two sessions, each limited to 15 persons (10:00 a.m. - noon or 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.). Each group will convene at the lower entrance next to the gift shop. Please wear comfortable walking shoes. The cost is $35 per person. For those who wish, a table will be reserved for both sessions to eat together in the Rozzelle Court Restaurant from 12:00-12:45 p.m. The average lunch is $10-15 per person. There is also a $5 parking fee for those who use the museum's parking garage. [Bible credit]
Morning Session
$35/$17.50 for students
Afternoon Session
$35/$17.50 for students

Wertsch Lecture on theWork of the Church
Dr. Amy Oden, Professor of Early Church History and Spirituality, Saint Paul at Oklahoma City University
Unbending Ourselves: Ancient Christian Voices on
Welcoming the Stranger
Tuesday, November 19, 2013
Free and open to the public
Dr. Oden's lecture will focus on hospitality in early Christianity and its challenge for communities today. These ancient voices give a rich picture of the ways and reasons early Christians welcomed strangers, and help Christians today claim this practice as our heritage. The Wertsch Lecture is made possible through the will of Marcia Wertsch. The lectureship, focusing on the work of the church, was established at National College in 1951 and was continued by Saint Paul School of Theology when the seminary moved to the former National College campus.
