Saint Paul School of Theology "President's eUpdate--Upcoming Saint Paul Events" Weekly President's eUpdate for Tuesday, 3 March 3, 2015
Dear Saint Paul Community,
The sun is shining as if announcing it is almost spring or at least that's what my soul says today! One of our students, Matt Bisel, and other musicians at the Resurrection Downtown campus have released their first CD Glory Revival Music. It is now playing in the Saint Paul car as I drive to/from work and to meetings all over the Heartland.
I won't tell my favorite selection, but I'm interested in hearing which one is your favorite. Ok just a hint-All you broken hearts & longing souls just come-- sounds like a call to prayer that connects with me. Congrats to Matt and the whole Glory Revival music team.
There are some very important dates coming and I want to invite your participation. Commencements are scheduled for 4:00 p.m. on May 22 at Saint Paul: Church of the Resurrection and 4:00 p.m. on May 29 at Saint Paul: Oklahoma City University.
The speaker at our Resurrection location is Bishop Sundo Kim, founding pastor of Kwanglin Methodist Church in Seoul, Korea. Fifty members stood with Dr. Kim at a groundbreaking in 1978. In two years the church had grown to 9,000. Today it is the largest Methodist Church in the world with 94,000 members.
In Oklahoma the speaker is Rev. David Wiggs '84, senior pastor of Boston Avenue UMC in Tulsa and a Saint Paul alum. David is an amazing testimony to the power of United Methodist campus ministry in the formation and shaping of a call to ministry.
A culminating lecture and retirement celebration for Dr. Young-Ho Chun is planned for 6 o'clock in the evening on Thursday, May 21st at The Venue in Leawood, 4800 West 135th Street, Suite 108. This festive occasion will include a celebration dinner and a culminating lecture by Dr. Chun. Seating will be limited to 300, so if you plan to attend, register soon.
The Inaugural Celebrate Saint Paul! dinner for our Saint Paul: Oklahoma City University campus will be held on May 14 at the Tom and Brenda McDaniel Student Center ballroom. Save the date! A new tradition begins with the presentation of the Bishop Robert E. Hayes, Jr. Leadership Award. The collaboration of Oklahoma City University, the Oklahoma Area of the United Methodist Church and Saint Paul celebrates its seventh year. I invite you join us for this special occasion.
A special note for Saint Paul Alumni/ae: It's time to select the 2015 Saint Paul Graduate Award recipient and I am inviting you to submit your nomination to me,sharon.howell@spst.edu, by March 31. This is an opportunity for you to think about those colleagues and friends who have served faithfully in any expression of ministry. All graduates are eligible: MDiv, MATS, Course of Study, MRE, MACM and DMin. I look forward to receiving your nomination with a short descriptive paragraph about your nominee.
Holy Conversations for alumni/ae and donors continue. Upcoming dates and locations:March 27 at Nebraska Wesleyan University, Lincoln, NE and April 10 at St. Paul's UMC in Wichita, KS. Reply to this email to RSVP or call Michele in alum relations at 913-253-5081. We are also working on a date for Des Moines, IA.
It has been such a gift to connect with alums and donors at these gatherings. Remember these Holy Conversations will continue through 2015. If you'd like to host one, please contact David Sisney.
On the journey with you,

Rev. H. Sharon Howell, President
