|
Dear JEMleap Donor,
|
With Gimmel Tamuz upon us, we want to update you on further progress in the 2 months since our previous update
. Thank you for helping to make all this happen.
The list of accomplishments is long, thank G-d, so we kept it to a short list of highlights – but there’s much more where these came from!
**Please note: We’ve included some resources for Gimmel Tammuz events below.
New Website
We’re pleased to announce the launch of a new website featuring short videos of the Rebbe.. It has a great mobile version for easy viewing on cellphones, and videos are super-easy to share. Check back often – we plan to post fresh video every day! Please have a look and share your thoughts: videos.jemedia.org.
Research and Production
Here are some of the production team’s exciting accomplishments:
Ø *New!Released the full Farbrengen of 12 Tammuz, 5741 on DVD, with translation in seven languages. This entailed a huge effort including restoration, editing video and audio, translation (lots and lots of it!!) and mastering. It is being watched around the world now as a preparation for Gimmel Tammuz. If you don’t yet have it, you can get it here. To learn the fascinating story behind this special release, see Chabad.org’sgreat article here.
Ø Researched, produced and translated 44 new segments for Living Torah, including a number of newly-restored films. Some highlights:
o Presented the story behind Rebbe's launch of the Special Torah Scroll for Children with the Rebbe’s talk and a corresponding interview.
o Produced a special combined Encounter/Timeless Moment/Eye to Eye in honor of Gimmel Tammuz.
o Presented a new film of Rebbe’s visit to Camp Gan Israel in summer, 1960, upcoming in disc 142.
Ø *New!Introduced a new series this week focusing on the Rebbe’s Torah scholarship. The new DVD release, Hadran–Siyum Mesechta Chagiga – is a video of the Rebbe delivering a complex Hadran marking the conclusion of Mesechta Chagiga, accompanied by a specially prepared guide which allows the viewer to follow the structure of the Rebbe’s talk. Get the new release here.
This item will NOT automatically be shipped to JEMclub members.
Archive and Preservation
The archive team has:
Ø Scanned an additional 21,000 photos directly from the original negatives – mostly by Levi Yitzchak Freidin during the years 5740 and 5741 (1980). They’ve already organized and cataloged most of them, and a large portion of them have already been uploaded to The Living Archive photo site for your access and perusal. Here are some 20,000 photos posted since our last update: Tishrei, 5741, Elul 5750/Tishrei, Cheshvan 5751, and Tammuz, 5751
.
Ø Assisted over 60 outside entities with research, collaboration and production of materials for use in their projects, including a number of major events in Israel and across the world. Several unique productions were created for specific Bar Mitzvas.
Ø Provided the Chassidishe Derher,Kfar Chabad, and Compass magazines, and numerous other periodicals with over 275 photos for publication. Each photo was color corrected, scratches and imperfections removed, and date and catalog info provided.
Social Media
During the past two months interest in the Rebbe has continued to grow tremendously on our social media platforms. A few highlights:

Chabad.org and affiliated sites.
Chabad.org and Shluchim have been utilizing the videos of the Rebbe nicely on their sites with 187,433 views.
Interviews
The My Encounter with the Rebbe team has:
Ø Recorded 26 new testimonies – each of them a treasure! Fourteen in Israel and twelve in the US. Two nuggets:
o Dr. Max Glassman was a doctor who tended to the Rebbe right after his heart attack in 1977. He tried to persuade the Rebbe to go to the hospital. The Rebbe responded that thousands of blessings to people from all over the world come from 770, and that his healing would come from here. Dr. Glassman asked the Rebbetzin to convince the Rebbe, to which she replied: “I never went against my husband’s wishes… do you want me to start now?” Dr. Glassman also spoke about his interactions with the Rebbe and Rebbetzin in the years that followed.
o In the late 1960s, while teaching at University of Texas, Dr. Larry Caroline began working on his doctorate. Professor Caroline, an outspoken critic of the Vietnam War, was asked to speak at a huge demonstration taking place at the state capitol in Austin. During his speech, he called for a revolution against the government. The next day, on the front page of most newspapers in Texas, the headlines read: “University of Texas Professor of Philosophy calls for a revolution!” Several years later, he had a yechidus with the Rebbe. The Rebbe told him that in the past he propagandized for revolution; now it was time for him to make propaganda for the “other revolution” (meaning, the Rebbe’s “revolution” – to bring Yiddishkeit to the masses). A fascinating interview!
Ø Eleven editions of Here’s My Story were prepared for publication.
Ø *New!Hasipur Sheli, the Hebrew version of Here’s My Storywill be launching this week. 10,000 copies are being distributed to Chabad Houses and Anash Shuls across Israel. Physical copies will be distributed weekly. Email sipursheli@jemedia.org
to get the pdf weekly.
