Resurrection West,
What an amazing week of “Disciple Me” VBC 2015! 260 kids and 100 volunteers learned how to be Disciples of Christ through scripture, drama, song and laughter. There were beautiful crafts, exploding science experiments, crazy outdoor games and pumpkin planting. Cooper Crockett led the “Change for Malawi” mission offering (the children gave over $1200), and school supplies were gathered for Ridgeview Elementary “Bless the School.” Thank you to everyone who helped make this week a super success! Here are a couple of pics. More can be viewed on our facebook page by clicking here.
RezWest Family Fun night TONIGHT from 6-8pm - Invite some friends and join us for a fun-filled summer evening. There will be fun for all with inflatables, food trucks, a petting zoo and even water games so feel free to bring the kids in their swim wear. We’ll begin with a fun VBC wrap up. Hope to see you there!
This Sunday we are kicking off a four-week sermon series focusing on Jesus’ parables. When Jesus taught he often spoke in parables – short stories from real life that addressed important questions about who God is, who God creates us to be, why we struggle to do the right thing, and what God expects from us. Through the parables, Jesus sought to reveal what the Kingdom of God is like and to teach us the meaning of life. Some are simple to understand. Some are challenging. I will be preaching live at West on the parable of the unmerciful servant. Get a jump on the message by reading through Matthew 18: 21-35. Invite friends and join us in worship this Sunday! We have many activities coming up so don't take a break from exercising your faith this summer.

New Summer Study for Women – The Gifts of Imperfection by Brene Brown, July 9, 16, 23, 30, 9:30-11 am. Each day we face a barrage of images and messages from society and the media telling us who, what and how we should be. So most of us perform, please and perfect, all the while thinking, “What if I can’t keep all of these balls in the air? When can I stop proving myself?” Dr. Brown shares ten guideposts on the power of wholehearted living—a way of engaging with the world from a place of worthiness. This study is geared for those who may need to miss a class. Childcare is available for age 6 weeks – 5th grade. Register at rezwest.org/summerwomensstudy.
Christian History Class offered July 12 and 19. This class will introduce participants to the history of the Christian church. Led by Dr. Jim Brandt, Professor of Historical Theology at Saint Paul School of Theology, the class will explore the larger periods of church history: the Early Church, the Medieval Church, the Church of the Reformations, the Early Modern Church and the Church in the 19th and 20th Centuries. We will get a sense of this larger flow of the tradition and then look more closely at some developments in the Reformation and the Church in the U.S. Cost of the class is $25 per person. Scholarships are available. Contact David.Robertson@cor.org for more information and to register.
