Weekly eNote from Pastor Scott Chrostek - Friday, 26 June 2015 from The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Downtown of Kansas City, Missouri, United States

Friday, June 26, 2015,
Greetings RezDowntowners,
After an evening of thunderstorms, cooler temperatures and refreshing rain, it is great to write you on a calm Friday morning. Wendy and I spent the better part of this week at home acclimating to a new normal with little Freddy! It has been such a joy to be able to spend some time at home with them. Freddy has made his inaugural trip to the coffee shop, the church offices, he voted with me and visited several other places in downtown Kansas City. He’ll even be in worship this weekend (time still to be determined). Thank you for your prayers and support in allowing Wendy and I some time at home during this past week! We consider it a blessing and privilege.
This weekend we are kicking off a new sermon series focusing on Jesus’ parables. When Jesus taught he often spoke in parables – short stories from real life that addressed important questions about who God is, who God creates us to be, why we struggle to do the right thing, and what God expects from us. Through the parables, Jesus sought to reveal what the Kingdom of God is like and to teach us the meaning of life. Some are simple to understand. Some are challenging. Join us this weekend as Pastor Todd will be preaching live a message about the importance of going all in by looking at the Parable of the Hidden Treasure and Lost Pearl. Also, this weekend as Pastor Todd preaches, we’ll be privileged to also have resident artist, Joel Hopler putting together his creative interpretation of the story on canvas as well. Pastor Todd will be preaching, Joel will be painting and my hope is that Holy Spirit will be stirring. Invite friends and join us in worship this weekend for this one of a kind creative worship experience.
In the meantime, here are several ways to connect to the life of this church in the coming days.

Resurrection at the Royals!Leawood is sold out, but we still have several tickets left! Join all Resurrection campuses as the Kansas City Royals take on the Toronto Blue Jays, Friday, July 10, at 7:10 pm. It’s Buck Night, so hotdogs and peanuts are just $1 each. Stay after the game and watch the summer fireworks display. We have a limited number of tickets for sale at Connection Point this weekend for $18 each, cash or check.
What’s It Mean to Be a United Methodist? Come discover the answer in the two-part summer class “United Methodist Heritage.” If you’re curious about what that means, join Professor Hal Knight, Wednesday, July 8 and 15, 6:30-8:30 pm, and bring your questions! This class will look at some of the background and hallmark traits of the “people called Methodists,” including history, structure and beliefs, and is one of six classes required for a Certificate in Lay Theology from Saint Paul School of Theology. Childcare available for infants – 5th grade. To register for the class and for childcare, visit rezdowntown.org/methodistclass. This class is $25, scholarships available. Omaha Serve & Learn Mission Trip – This mission trip is for those who are interested in learning how to engage poverty and want experience in serving with and for the poor. A team will be heading to Omaha to interact with people of various backgrounds all over the city. The trip will beThursday, August 27, through Sunday, August 30 and the cost is $200. The deadline to apply for the trip is July 31. You can pick up an information sheet with more details at the Connection Point. If you have questions or would like an application for the trip, please contact Pastor Todd attodd.maberry@cor.org.
Word’s Out: There Are Small Groups Meeting! It’s true and it’s not a secret, but it is a wonderful, delicate process. After regularly attending worship, volunteering and being a part of classes or events, many folks want to go deeper in their faith. They tend to want to accomplish this alongside a group of like-minded people who they “do life” with and are able to grow spiritually together. If you are ready for this more in-depth, devoted small group experience, go torezdowntown.org/grouplife and complete the form. Kelly Sisney will be working on finding you the perfect spot; though it can sometimes take a while, it’s important to get a group that works best for you! For any questions, contact Kelly.Sisney@cor.org.
Willow Creek Leadership Summit is hosted at two of our campuses this year: Blue Springs and Leawood, Aug. 6-7. Visit www.cor.org/willowcreek to register (select your location and key in GLS15HOST for password). Receive discounted $89 rate if you register by July 7.
