Luke 17:5 The emissaries said to the Lord, “Increase our trust.” 6 The Lord replied, “If you had trust as tiny as a mustard seed, you could say to this fig tree, ‘Be uprooted and replanted in the sea!’ and it would obey you. [Complete Jewish Bible]

My friend Julie's pottery shop is named The Mustard Seed, and her faith has moved mulberry trees for years. Twelve years ago, Julie's husband's stroke and subsequent complications and illnesses began to "adjust" their hopes for retirement time after time. But Julie and Rich don't often stop and wonder if they have enough faith. They don't wait for more. They just take each step with as much (or little) trust, gratitude and grace as they can muster. And their walk of faith moves more hearts than trees.
"Increase our faith," is a good prayer. Perhaps it's answered as we take faltering steps and find surprising support. Perhaps mustard seed faith is quite enough.
How big does your faith feel today? Can you let it be enough?
Gracious God, please take what little faith we have in you and ourselves, and let it be enough for our next step. And please, increase our faith. Amen.
