Sermon Series. It can be a challenge to hear God's voice in the midst of all our busyness. Well, He still speaks and is just waiting to be heard. Pastor Cleaver's sermon series, "God is Speaking: Are You Listening?" continues Sundays through October 9th. Sunday's sermon is "The Art of Listening" from Matthew 13:14-16.
Wednesday Night Live. Join us each week at 7 p.m. for praise and worship; followed by a powerful Word from God. Childcare is provided for ages 1-4, with activities for children and youth ages 5-18.
Guest Preacher. Mark you calendars! Congressman Emanuel Cleaver II will be our guest preacher Sunday, October 16th during 8 a.m., 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. worship.
Congratulations. Althea Billings, Dawn Williams and Kalenda & Rachel Kabukala recently completed the New Member Orientation. Welcome to the St. James family!
Special Church Conference. Our District Superintendent, Dr. Jim Simpson, will lead us in a Special Church Conference Monday, October 10th at 7 p.m. All members are encouraged to attend, share thoughts and vote.
The purpose of this conference is to provide an overview of a new governance model for the church. The Leadership Board model (alternative simplified structure) that will be proposed would replace the current Church Council model on January 1, 2017. We will also seek your approval on Leadership Board members for 2017. Please mark your calendars for this important meeting.
Charge Conference. Our Annual Charge Conference is Sunday, October 23rd at 3 p.m. at St. John's UMC, 6900 Ward Pkwy, KCMO. All members are invited to attend this annual business meeting led by our District Superintendent. We will also nominate members of the 2017 church leaders and review salaries of our appointed pastors. Those interest in outreach and evangelism are invited to attend a special session at 2 p.m.One of our District Lay Leaders will lead a conversation on developing relationships with people in our community.

Extra, Extra - Pray All About It. Join the men of St. James, St. Andrew and Centennial UMCs as we come together to pray for the woes of our community, city, state and nation. We'll gather Saturday, October 1stfrom 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. here at the Paseo Campus. "Then Jesus told them a parable about their need to pray always and not to lose heart." - Luke 18:1
Teachers' Institute. Are you a current (or aspiring) Sunday School, Bible Study and Growth Group leader, teacher or facilitator? Couples' Sunday School. Did you know there are six commitments every happily married couple makes that help them get the marriage they want? How is your marriage? Well, regardless of what it's like for you and your spouse, learn some techniques for improving your marriage by attending the Couples' Sunday School Class. Disciple Bible Study. This study for folks with busy lives consists of two 12-week sessions and meets Tuesdays at 6:15 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. The book, "Disciple Fast Track: Becoming Disciples Through Bible Study," by Richard B. Wilke is available through your favorite online retailer.
I Am A Church Member. Using the book of the same name (by Thom Rainer), this short-term growth group meets for six weeks on Tuesdays at6 p.m. in the Ministry Mall. Gain understanding about your role as a part of the body of Christ and learn what it truly means to be a member. Books are available at your favorite local or online retailer.
Senior Fitness & Bible Study. Join us at the Paseo Campus everyWednesday from 11:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. for light to moderate exercise done from the comfort of a chair! A trained fitness expert will guide you through exercises that help strengthen you, and the fellowship will help motivate you. Then, stay for Senior Bible Study from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and get strengthened in the spirit! Feel free to bring a dish and join us in the potluck lunch following our study time.
Bible Study at Renaissance. Tuesday night is Community Night at the Renaissance Campus! Bring the family out for food & fellowship! Yes, there will be a word as well - a timely message to boost your work week. There will be something for children & teens, too. Come out & get to know your church family!
Prayer Class. Every 4th Sunday, learn how to build your prayer skills and broaden your personal faith development with Pastor Macklin and Helen Walker in the chapel at 9:45 a.m.
Christian Sympathy is extended to Stacy Jackson (John) at the passing of her father, Gary Hider, Sr.; to Karen James (Reggie) at the passing of her aunt, Marialice Everett and to Shellye Oatis and Jana Walton at the passing of their aunt, Regina Annette St. Jean.
Empowerment in Aging. All seniors are invited to attend a special workshop, Saturday, October 22nd from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Ministry Mall. Workshop topics include "Aging in Place" and "Ten Things to Know About Alzheimer's and Medicare." In addition to the workshops, lots of other information will be shared. Come and be empowered to navigate this season of your life. Register online or call the church office 816-444-5588 to attend. This event is free and open to the public. Continental breakfast will be served.
GriefShare Ministry. No matter the circumstance, grief recovery is a painful process. Our Grief Ministry offers 11-week support sessions Thursdays at 6 p.m. Sessions are led by caring people who have been there and found hope and healing along the way. Encouragement Ministry. Every now and then, good things are in need of enhancements to go from "good to better to best." That is where we find ourselves with the Encouragement Card Ministry. Many members and family members have been blessed through your caring gesture of sharing your thoughts and prayers and for that we are grateful. For now, we will temporarily suspend collecting cards. New Teaching Series. "Legends of the Fall," (biblical accounts of God's interaction during a major fall) continues Wednesdays at 7 p.m. during RAGE. This series covers the fall of King Saul, Judas, Goliath and the Wall of Jericho.
Confirmation. Class is held Sundays at 9:45 a.m. in the Great Hall Conference Room. Youth will learn the history of our Christian faith and the United Methodist Church, learn why we worship the way we do and attend spiritual retreats. We also explore different worship practices and fellowship with other congregations. Scouting Ministry. We are actively recruiting girls and boys!

Adult Volunteers. Committed adults are always needed to participate. Training is required and provided at no cost. Contact one of the adults listed above to get started.
Kidney Health Screening. Did you know that one in three people are at risk for kidney disease? Are you the one? Risk factors include Diabetes and high blood pressure, but there are generally no symptoms until the late stages of kidney disease. Learn your risk at a free screeningSaturday, November 19th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. What to expect at the event: Risk Survey, blood pressure check, body mass index (BMI) measurement, an opportunity to speak with a healthcare professional, free educational materials, and for individuals at risk, an ACR urine test for albumin (a type of protein). Must be 18 years of age or older to participate. All participants will receive a free bag of groceries from Truman Medical Center's Mobile Market. Festival of Sharing. Every year in October, various denominations and non-profit organizations come together in Sedalia, Missouri to respond to poverty, hunger and injustice throughout the world. This year both the Paseo and Renaissance campuses are partnering to provide Student Dental Packs, Family Food Packs and Paper Products Packs. Click here to see the items needed. Please donate one of more of the packs listed. Bring your completed pack to church by Sunday, October 9th. Volunteers from both campuses will deliver the collected packs to Woods Chapel UMCWednesday, October 12th for transportation to Sedalia.
