The Upper Room Daily Devotionals in Nashville, Tennessee, United States "TRUST GOD" for Sunday, 28 August 2016 with Scripture Psalm 106:24 Next, they rejected the beautiful land,
they didn’t trust his promise;
25 and they complained in their tents,
they didn’t obey Adonai.
26 Therefore, raising his hand, he swore to them
that he would strike them down in the desert
27 and strike down their descendants among the nations,
dispersing them in foreign lands.
-------
Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.[Joshua 1:9 (NIV)]
The phone call from the dean inviting me to teach plunged me into panic. I thought about all the potential problems: What if I don’t know enough about the material? What if the students ask questions I can’t answer? What if they realize that I don’t know everything? I was faced with a choice: would I succumb to fear or trust the promise that I can do all things with God’s help? (See Phil. 4:13.)
As I thought about my options, I remembered the Israelites who stood outside the Promised Land filled with fear. They didn’t believe God’s promise of success. They worried about the giants in the land. They forgot all the wonderful miracles God did to bring them out of Egypt.
I decided the best option was to trust God despite my fear and to accept the teaching offer. Despite all the unknowns, I clung to God’s promise to be with me. God gave me the strength, knowledge, and perseverance to guide the class.
When faced with a new challenge, we can remember God’s past faithfulness. These memories provide the courage to accept each new challenge that comes our way.
