Weekly eNote from Pastor Jason Gant for Friday, 2 June 2017 - The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection West in Olathe, Kansas, United States
Resurrection West,

Scharme, Hailey, Kaia, and myself are so grateful for the privilege to have shared last week’s message It takes Three’ in the hopes of increasing spiritual health in relationships in our community. If you missed last week’s message you can click here or go to our Facebook page to view it here. You might consider sharing it with a couple you know that it may enrich their relationship.

I’ve spent this week studying what are known as the “parables of the kingdom” in Matthew 13 to preach live in this new series starting Sunday. The message is titled ‘Small but Mighty…Hidden but Here’. Its been inspirational to study Jesus’ parables on the mustard seed, yeast, and a pearl. Parables are real life stories from which one or possibly a few basic truths are drawn. When you factor in the culture of the day, the context, and the people Jesus’ shared each parable with we discover many hidden truths meant to enrich our understanding of the kingdom of God. I am excited to share many of these ‘hidden but here’ truths in the kingdom parables this Sunday. I believe when we live into these truths Jesus’ teaches we live into the call of discipleship. One of the key markers of discipleship is an invitational spirit. Would you pause right now and pray about who you could invite to worship this Sunday as we launch this series called 'Upside Down Kingdom’. You can share a promo video on social media or through an email by clicking here. All of our KiDSCOR Sunday School resumes at all four services. 6th-8th grade Sunday School takes a break until August 20th, while all services will be kid and teen friendly. Be a difference-maker in someone’s life and take courage to invite them to worship! One change I wanted to make you aware of in the Gant family’s Sunday schedule is that we are moving from worship at 5pm to worshiping together at the 8am service, with our kids then going to Sunday School at 9:30am (and Scharme serving as a volunteer). Our oldest daughter, Hailey, will be moving up into 6th grade Sunday School starting this fall, so we want her to connect with the other 5th graders currently in that hour. Studies show that worshiping together as a family is the #1 reason for a life long faith after adolescence. If you’ve ever been concerned that your child is a distraction in worship, please know that they are always welcome in the Sanctuary. Part of our job as a church family is to welcome them in and support their connection to community worship through praise in song, corporate prayer, sharing in Sacraments (communion & baptism), and growing in understanding of Scriptures. When they see you worship it models discipleship for them. This is so important!

Finally, it was a privilege to welcome our summer class of interns yesterday afternoon to RezWest giving them a tour and sharing the history and heartbeat of our campus.  It was inspiring to see their anticipation to serve this summer campuses and departments from global missions to communications. As I shared what I believe to be critical markers of our congregation; commitment to our mission, joy in our community, an invitational spirit, servanthood mindset, caring for people beyond measure, etc. I couldn’t help but be grateful to serve God in such an amazing place. Thank you for that honor. Please know that my greatest desire is to share with people in western Johnson county the deep love Jesus has for us and to connect them into the faith community. When I’m working throughout the week my priorities, time, and function is built out of our mission to build Christian community where non and nominally-religious people are becoming deeply committed Christians. I hope you share in that passion and together we live into this incredible call to share light and life. It’s going to be a great summer to shine His light all around!

Looking forward to worship on Sunday
