Weekly eNote from Pastor Scott Chrostek for Friday, June 2, 2017 -  The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection Downtown in Kansas City, Missouri, United States

Hi RezDowntowners,

I hope you are doing well
this Friday morning.  What a joy it was to be able to preach with my wife last weekend.  Thank you for all of your prayers leading up to our conclusion on The Birds and The Bees sermon series.  We had tremendous worship attendance for a holiday with nearly 900 people in worship services across the weekend.  That's huge for Memorial Day Weekend!  Thank you for inviting people to join us...spreading the invitation is a big part of our call to change the world and transform the heart of the city.  However, I think the highlight last weekend wasn't the message or even the attendance, but rather the ways that our children and families rallied to lead us in worship, especially during the singing of 'Boom Chaka Laka!"  I am so thankful for our children and their families, how they are gathering and growing in the light and love of Christ together in the heart of the city!  They embody the fruits of the Spirit and I'm excited to see how this will shape the city's future generations. This week, I shared Sarah Brischle's KiDSCOR video on our Facebook page.  Watch it here to learn more about what goes on each weekend in our Children's Ministry area.  Speaking of kids... it's a great time for you to sign up for the first of three summer Vacation Bible Camp gatherings happening on Saturday, June 10!  Find more information on VBC below.
This weekend we kick off a new sermon series on Jesus' stories that changed the world.  I will preach on the first of several parables that have shaped and redefined how we view the power and promise of God.  We'll talk about yeast, mustard seeds, Jesus, Budweiser, Google and other people and corporations that unlocked the power and potential of stories to inspire world-changing action.  This weekend is also Pentecost weekend, when we celebrate the birth of the church by remembering the story in Acts in which 'tongues of fire' descended upon the disciples, inspiring them to proclaim the story of Jesus and his love to the world.   I am really excited about this series and look forward to kicking off this weekend with a message on God's kingdom being hidden, but here!
Upside Down starts this Saturday night - here's a video promo for you to share as a way of inviting people to join us on this journey!
