Greetings Rez Blue Springs,
I want to wish you all an early Happy Valentines! I'm excited for tonight. We have over a hundred reservations for our Valentines dinner this evening. I'm about to head over to the church to work with an awesome team of volunteers ready to transform our sanctuary into a Valentine's appropriate setting. Our sanctuary is getting the workout these days as our community continues to grow. Last night I was running around the perimeter with our Rezercise women's exercise group as we work to improve these "holy temples" we inhabit (I have quite a ways to go on that account). As I ran around the room, I was praying for each one of you who enter this space each week and asking God for clear vision for our future. We've been doing some dreaming about our space and are coming up with some exciting ideas for accommodating the growth we've experienced and anticipate this next year.
This Sunday is the second sermon in our series of how to live missionally. Pastor Adam will come to us again via video from Africa where he is seeing firsthand the impact of our partnerships with the United Methodist Church in Malawi and Zimbabwe. Come hear how we are living out our mission to change lives, transform communities and renew the church in these areas and be inspired to dream about where you fit into this picture. I'd like to encourage our members and regular attendees to consider joining us at the 9am worship service to make more room at our 10:45 service for first time visitors. The last few weeks we've been experiencing a full house at 10:45 am. The 9 am has plenty of space available yet.
Looking ahead to next week, we’ll begin the season of Lent, a season of preparation, 40 days marked by the ‘lengthening of days’ during which we look toward Easter. It’s a period of discipline and devotion and returning to God with open and honest hearts. This season begins on Wednesday with a service of ashes and repentance. Join us for our Ash Wednesday Service at 7 pm on February 18th where I will be preaching live. Don't forget to mark your calendars for our next Faithwork on February 21st too. If you weren't able to get into the Heart to Heart Serve day at Leawood tomorrow, we'll be packing more of the Health Kits in our Fellowship Hall at 9 am. Come and join us there.
I also want to encourage you to consider taking part in a lenten study as a way to prepare your hearts for Easter. We'll be offering a 7 week study using Pastor Adam Hamilton's book, Final Words From the Cross on Sunday evenings beginning February 22 from 6:30 - 8:00 pm in the coffee area (childcare available). I would also encourage you to consider taking part in an in-home study or possibly creating your own small group for this season of Lent. Gather a few other church members or invite a group of friends and neighbors to join you for 7 weeks in your home. We can provide the videos and leaders guides needed and the books are available at Guest Services.
Here's what's coming up:
2014 Attendance Mugs For those of you who had 90-100% attendance in 2014, and were listed in Pastor Adam's eNote on Friday, Jan. 9 and 16, you can pick up your mug at Guest Services in the East Entrance. Thank you for your faithfulness in attendance!
Serving the Church Join a Team to provide set-up and tear-down help for classes and events periodically. For more information or to volunteer, Contact Stephanie.Weigel@rezbluesprings.org. Helpers Needed for Evening Childcare during classes and events. Contact Caitlin.Willis@rezbluesprings.org.
Rezercise - Exercise Class for Women Did you make a New Year's resolution to get in better shape in 2015? Having trouble getting that exercise component added to your schedule? Join a group of women in the sanctuary on Thursday nights from 7-8 pm. Sarah Dowell will be leading this excercise class. She'll be teaching each movement at three different levels so you can choose what is most appropriate for your level of fitness. Bring a mat or towel and a water bottle.
Valentine Dinner-Friday, February 13, 6:30 pm If you've made reservations we've reserved a meal for you, so don't forget to join us tonight at Resurrection Blue Springs to celebrate Valentine's day together. We have a delicious dinner and great entertainment and fun for the evening. We set the tables with a few extra seats so if your evening has become available or somethings come up, leave a message on the church phone and we'll let you know whether the seats have been filled or not, 816-389-8900.
Ash Wednesday Service-February 18, 7 pm This worship service marks the beginning of the season of Lent when we prepare our hearts for Easter. “Ash Wednesday” comes from the medieval custom of marking with ashes the heads of those who show sorrow or regret for sin. The imposition of ashes will be offered at the service along with special music, meaningful scripture and a message of hope. See Sunday’s insert for information on opportunities for worship, study, reflection, prayer and celebration during Lent and Easter, or visit rezbluesprings.org/lent.
Serve in FaithWork - Saturday, February 21 Help pack 250 care kits that will be distributed worldwide for those suffering after a natural disaster or in areas of widespread illness including the Ebola epidemic in Africa. These kits will be assembled at our Blue Springs Campus in Fellowship Hall. FaithWork starts at 9 am and should be completed by 11 am. This project is family-friendly. Sign up at Guest Services or
online here.
Lenten Study “Final Words from the Cross” Examine Christ’s final words in this reflective devotional study by Pastor Adam Hamilton starting Sunday, Feb. 22. Each chapter begins with the biblical account followed by a first-person story as might have been told from the viewpoint of one of the characters at the cross. Then the chapter explores the meaning for our lives today. Cost of the book is $9. The onsite class will be in the coffee area at Resurrection Blue Springs, Sunday evenings at 6:30 pm. Home studies may be held other days and times chosen by the hosts. One in home study will be held Wednesdays at 6:30 pm starting Feb 25. If you’d like to lead a study in your home or participate in a group, please sign up online here online here or at Guest Services. For more information, contactMike.Ash@rezbluesprings.org.
