The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection West of Olathe, Kansas, United States Weekly eNote from Pastor Jason Gant - Friday, 25 March 2015
Resurrection West,
What a beautiful morning as we reflect and remember the power of Christ’s journey toward the cross this Lenten season! This Sunday begins what we call Holy Week in the life of the church. Believers all over the world will be celebrating Christ’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem. The gospel writer John writes it this way in John 12:13 (NIV)…
They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting, "Hosanna!" "Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!" "Blessed is the king of Israel!"
We will invite all of our children to wave palms in a parade through the Sanctuary, at all services, while we sing praises to our King Children will be organized in KiDS COR Sunday School for the parade. At the5pm, we will invite them to leave the service earlier than usual to participate in the parade.
Then we will journey closer to the cross with a 7pm Maundy Thursday service – April 2nd. We will share in Holy Communion, hear lessons from each of the witnesses to the crucifixion, and sing music to move the heart of God.
Then make plans to pause on Good Friday for prayer between 7am-7pm – April 3rd. We will have the Sanctuary and nature trail open and prayer guides for your time in prayer and reflection.
Then on Saturday we will celebrate the Resurrection of Christ with a community-wide egg hunt at 3pm– April 4th. Children will experience games, sweets, and egg hunt fun for all ages. We still need cans of pop for our Easter Egg Hunt games – donations are greatly appreciated! And if you would like to assist with one of the many games/crafts/activities on Saturday the 4th, we could use more help! Need to be available from 3-5pm. Great opportunity for small groups and students to get involved! Email Vicki Holdman to serve atVicki.holdman@cor.org
Then Easter worship services begin right after the egg hunt with our first service at 5:30pm on Saturday. Sunday we will celebrate the Resurrection of Christ at 8am, 9:30am, 11:15am, and 5:00pm.Please consider worshiping at the 5:30pm, 8am, or 5pm to help make room for our guests!
Parking Tags will be available this Sunday at the front tables. You can hang a tag in your car, meaning that you are willing to park farther out, and help welcome our visitors by keeping the close spaces for them! Tags will help make this easier for our parking lot attendants to direct.
Thank you to those of you who have already signed up to serve as ushers, greeters, parking attendants, nursery workers and more. We still need many volunteers, especially nursery workers at the 11:15amservice, to serve over the weekend as we welcome over 2000 people to worship with us at Resurrection West. Go to rezwest.org/easter and sign up to serve now!
If your child will be participating in the 8am Easter worship children's choir, please contact Tobi Fuller – Elementary Program Director at tobi.fuller@cor.org to provide your child’s name.
Don't miss out on these great opportunities for mission and ministry coming your way.

Thursday Live Morning Session:
Hearing God, Dallas Willard led by Dave Robertson - Being close to God means communicating with him--telling him what is on our hearts in prayer and hearing and understanding what he is saying to us. The key is to focus not so much on individual actions and decisions as on building our personal relationship with our Creator.
Ever After, Vicki Courtney led by Anne Strempke. Marriage and motherhood are hard and no matter how much we give or how hard we try, we may never feel like it's enough. The Ever After Bible study addresses the difficulties and blessings of marriage and motherhood. Most of all, it reflects the hope that Christ meets us wherever we are in the journey and that He alone is the answer to the happily ever after we long for.
The Road to Wisdom written and led by Dennis and Reve Butler - The Road to Wisdom unlocks the puzzle of human behavior--who am I, and why do I behave the way I do--and provides definitive answers that will forever change how you understand yourself and those around you! This book is relevant for individuals in all positions and walks of life: leaders, managers, employees, parents, spouses/significant others, brothers/sisters, friends, clergy, educators, therapists, and those who are healthy or unhealthy in their emotional behavior.
Thursday Live Evening Session
Unglued, Lysa TerKeurst led by Stephanie Makalous. Lysa TerKeurst admits that she, like most women, has experiences where others bump into her happy and she comes emotionally unglued. We stuff, we explode, or react somewhere in between. What do we do with these raw emotions? Is it really possible to make emotions work for us instead of against us?
Finally, go to our branching out:making room for all web-site to read another powerful blog from one of our west staffers. Travis Morgan – Staff Director, writes a testimonial piece highlighting some of our 20-somethings who have been shaped by God here at West and are changing the world in their chosen paths! Go to branchingout.rezwest.org to read the blogs!
As I read this blog, I found myself filled with joy and gratitude for what God is doing here at West. Thank you for your commitment to the mission of our church. Here's a pic from last year where our children were preparing to process.
I can't wait to see our children in the palm parades this Sunday! As you see their faces parade through, I invite you to imagine how each child will change the world for Christ in the decades to come!
Looking forward to worshiping with you this Sunday,
Pastor Jason
